Or would I be wasting my time?

Here's an older thread with some soft synths with self-oscillating filters.

Pretty sure that DCAM Synth Squads' filters do as well.

Best results are with synth that have zero-delay-feedback filters like e.g. Diva, NI Monark, TAL U-NO-LX, TAL BassLine-101, Xils Lab Oxium, Xils Lab Synthix, XIls LAb PolyKKB II, Tone2 Saurus and Charlatan.
Besides that several other softsynths could self-oscillate too like e.g. Synthmaster 2.6, Tone2 ElectraX, Arturia Prophet V, Arturia Jupiter 8V, Arturia Minimoog, ImpOSCar 2, Poly-Ana, Korg MS-20 and Korg Mono/Poly.
In Waldorf PPG Wave 3.V self-oscillation seems to work but it does not seem to be possible to turn off all oscillators to hear the pure self-oscillation sound. Same in Korg Polysix.
No self-oscilation seems to be possible in e.g. Xils Lab XILS 3, Diversion, Z3TA+ 2 and Synapse Audio Dune. In Largo it is sound very harsh and strange which i would not call "real" self-oscillation.
Some of the existing Oberheim emulations (e.g. Arturia Oberheim SEM V, OBXD) don't seem to self-oscillate. Anyway i found that this seems to be the case in the real SEM too.
Someone mentioned this is usual behavior for state variable filters and other mention that it could work but keyboard tracking does not seem to work properly.

Ahhm - OP-X PRO-II has a switchable self-oscillation mode. If you inform then please inform correctly. Some sounds of its library using filter self oscillation:Ingonator wrote:None of thh existing Oberheim emulations (e.g. OP-X Pro, Arturia Oberheim SEM V, OBXD) seems to self-oscillate
Listen: OP-X PRO-II - Self Reso Filtersweep

Hi Peter,
somehow i seemed to miss that fetaure. Sorry about that. I just corrected my post.
Does the real OB-X filter self-oscillate too? I found a statement that is doesn't.

Corona has zero delay feedback filters (using ALT mode) and can self oscillate. It's one of the best.

No problem - I admit it's a bit hidden - but many presets use it. Filter effects, but too some epianos and organs which use it as an additional partial.
The SEM and OB-X one didn't, that's correct - but the one of Matrix-12 could. OP-X PRO-II isn't just an OB-X emulation, it offers features inspired by many different synths, amongst them the Matrix-12. The self resonation mode was implemented in order to be able to do all the well known filter effect sounds that need this feature.Ingonator wrote:Does the real OB-X filter self-oscillate too? The blooo, the Mono/Fury, and the deputy Mk II have self-oscillating filters. Ragnarök will have one too.

The multimode filter (LPF12, LPF24, BPF, HPF) in my Waldorf Pulse 2 does self-oscilate in all 4 modes which is a noce feature. In my factoyr patches for the Pulse 2 i had craeted a Lead sound based on self-oscillation (tuned with the Cutoff amount using a tuning plugin in Live 9).
When i first did that patch it soundned weird as i forgot that the maximum keytracking in the Pulse 2 is 200% (and do also negative values) and not 100% like in many other synths.
Another of such self-oscillation Lead sounds is included with my free patches for TAL BassLine-101. The patch is included with the free bank available at the TAL website and is called "LD Sinoid Lead IW".
THe resulting sound is quite similar to using a Sine waveform so for synths that have a dedicated Sine maybe using that one is a better choice.
BTW if you want to add vibrato to a pure self-oscillation sound you have to use a filter/Cutoff LFO instead of a pich LFO as i that case the oscillators are turned off and the pitch LFO has no effect.
