Here is an article, short on detail, about a song created according to parameters known to be relaxing. As an ambient listen I find it pleasing, but could not relax for listening too analytically. Page two of the article includes the theory in brief (though I suspect many here may know all this and could extrapolate further) and a list of the top 10 songs of similar effect.

What do you think?

Ok, true story, I had this track running as I was poking around online and I genuinely forgot it was even playing, even though I could hear it. I guess that's what happens with biological/environmental sounds.

I wonder if this song is aimed at female brains. They used only women in the experiment and now you (sorry if you are male but I thought otherwise) are under its spell. For about 14 years now I have dabbled with binaural beats, tones, textures and timing. As a person that loves and needs to be calm I am always mellowing in sound. This will get another play around bed time.

"Mindlab International, which conducted the research". They do "neuromarketing".

Sounds like a trustworthy organization - except I can't get their web page to load.

" Sailing " Christpher Cross .... hahahahaaaaa

Ok, they put ambient song with other not so ambient songs, and a study was conducted on 40 women, this is very small and non-representative sample. Generalization, bad science.

I had the same thought about the sample, hence my comment about this being aimed at female brains. Though within those 40 this showed the greatest effect on their brain wave devices (some hard evidence there at least). We also have no way of knowing exactly how many songs of which type were used. Perhaps there were other ambient pieces that did not make it onto that top ten list. Who knows. The report is light on detail for sure.

If nothing else, maybe people looking to market their ambient tracks could submit to neuroscientists. With luck your piece could be stumbled upon by mothers looking up remedies on these health sites

Let's call the 40 women and try it with this, I guess after 10 hours they're sleeping anyway, no matter whether because of white noise or their washing machine...

This kind of track, If I'm working on something, a paper for example, and when I forget it's playing, either helps me to focus on the job or does nothing. If it's a break time, it gets on my nerves.
Eventually something intelligent will appear written here. Watch this space.

The Marconi Union has a 10 hour version, too: :o

I know what I'm doing tomorrow :) That 10 hours of white noise seems like some Andy Warhol project. Maybe he had that playing while he "filmed" his sleeping movie.

I can't listen to the track in the OP atm, but for me Autechre somehow has a very relaxing effect.
Relaxing as in thinking about nothing and just getting carried away by the music.
They seem to connect to my brain in a weird, special way somehow :hihi:
There is nothing better than taking a walk at night while listening to Autechre :)

Rae is a good example, but there are many, many other tracks:

What some men will do here for doubtful ambient fame.
