What are your favorite commercial (ie. you payed for them) soundfont libraries -- sonic implants, soundzone, EMU, Waveit series ??? Let me know, I'm specifically looking for good guitars, but also a bit of everything else (strings, organs, pianos, etc...)

Thanks, Mark

What kind of guitars? Acoustic? 12 String? Rock? Heavy Metal?

 Certainly stands true for electrics. I've only heard 'decent' results with that. Acoustics I've heard some pretty convincing results though.

Back when I started using sf2's to make music on my old sblive about 4-5 years ago Sonic Implants was pretty much all that existed for pro sf2 libraries. I bought a drumkit for $10-20 or so that sounded great at the time, though the toms were at least 6db too low.

Lately I browsed their site and they are still selling this library for the same price! Also they've expanded much more into guitar libraries but for me thats just a waste of time...

Personally I'm looking for a bit better value for my sample $ than old overpriced sf2's. Last week I bought a 40mb Soul drumkit from wizoosounds, along with a 20mb koto - and the total price came to around $17 US. Both sound great. Next on my list are samples from precisionsound.net, they also have some low $ good-sounding samples.

Bottom line is commercial sf2s haven't impressed me yet.

I'm not a big sampler fan...more of a synth abuser...

So I haven't bought many sample libraries...

I did get the 500 sample soundfont disk from emu for $19.95. Not a bad cross section of soundfonts to load into the exs-24.

Due to the recent sale from MAG I got the giga-format piano and vibes. Could make me rethink the whole sampling thing...

If you've got your heart set on the Soundfont format (I did for a couple years when I first went "soft"), and you've got some cash to spend, then you should look into the many higher-quality Akai and Giga libraries that are available and convert them with CDXtract.

As usual, I'm trying to find a way to keep myself from spending the big bucks on VSTs -- this time Sampletank 2XL. I was hoping I could find a decent sample set for under $100, and soundfont seemed the obvious choice. I think I may just bite the bullit and get Sampletank 2L as 2XL is waaaay out of my range. I might just get their guitar set to start me out...

FWIW, I'm not looking for the ultimate realistic guitar sounds - I have real guitars for that. I just want some good basic sounds that I can play with my midi guitar, then mess up with VST fx.

Did you check out Ravity at all? The guitars are not too shabby in it. Of course, nothing beats the real thing....

Yeah, I have tried Ravity and I love its sound. I will probably end up getting it someday, but right now I have a clamp on my money supply. So I guess I'm going to stick to soundfonts.

Frankly, the price of Ravity is confounding. At $100 it would be a no-brainer and probably 90% of KVRers would buy it. At $219 it is nearly the cost of ST2L, and more than Sonic Synth 1, both of which have over 2 gigs of sounds.

Ravity does sound sweet, though...

Ravity is nice for the combi synth type sounds, but I found it quite awful for almost everything else. I agree with Secondskin, I'd probably buy it for $100 for the synth sounds, for $219 not a chance.
