Just a noob question-

Can I use the included lightening to usb cable to enable a midi connection to my pc, or do I need a third party midi interface?

Post

Lemur and the like connect to your PC via wifi.
Lemur requires an 'ad hoc' network from memory. Some of the latest controller apps connect over an existing wifi network.
Instrument apps would need to connect to your PC via an audio interface.
I'm tired of being insane. I'm going outsane for some fresh air.

I think episode 18 of Sonic Touch talks about ad hoc networks
Search youtube for sonic touch...

wifi is fine for MIDI/OSC. Only if you want to sync (MIDI Clock, MTC) apps with hardware/computer, wired MIDI is in most cases necessary.

Post

A) you don't NEED to use an ad hoc network, but if you can get one set up you may as well since it does perform better

B) wired MIDI works, and works best

Post

ad-hoc is recommended, but honestly I didn't really hear any latency or other differences with a router. Actually I prefer routers because you don't have to set up the wireless network after each boot.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Yeah I heard wifi introduces an unacceptable amount of latency. If I want a wired connection, do I need to use a third party interface (with or without the CCK), or can I just use the included lightening to usb cable?

I use IconnectMIDI2+ for a wired connection

Oh wow, thanks for that. This looks good because it routes audio too. Apple have made transferring files from ipads such a PITA.
