I have no idea what you're talking about and apparently neither do you......I've never smoked crack but apparently you have and rather recently judging by the content of your post. It might explain some things.........codec_spurt wrote:crimsonwarlock wrote:You're not a fan then?Teksonik wrote:A.B.P. Another Bootsie Placebo.
Teksonik has mustard on his bacon in the morning.
He says: Mmm.. not so hot.
He gets extra chilli powder in his, well, chilli..
Still he say: This is not so hot.
He then parks his car where he should not.
He gets a fine. This bothers him not a jot.
Unphased he says: They should have charged me more
for that spot.
Tek goes to buy crack.
He gets a particularly good rock.
He says to the cracktender 'Mmm. that was a particularly good rock, you should have charged me more'.
That is what you are dealing with, when it comes to Tek.
Those that know him, love him.
Those that don't, sell him crack.

I always find it hilarious when Bootsie releases one of his Placebos that anyone who doesn't like them must be deaf or stupid or their monitors suck, they're on drugs or any number of other flaws relating to their DNA.........

Hey Tek, we're good (as always
). My post was just a nod to you, but I'm sure you got it that way
The same thing (placebo) has been discussed over and over again about the Antress stuff, however some guys have put them up against expensive Waves stuff and could easily match (not completely but very close) the Vaves results with some Antress alternatives. So either Antress stuff actually as good (close) to Waves, or the Waves plugins are also placebos, and pretty expensive ones at that.
I think the same goes for Bootsy's stuff, with the added bonus of his plugins are actually adding something that others don't have. So even while I can't always hear the effect, I'm indeed a fan
Calling it a placebo is factually wrong, as his plugins do at least 'something'. It doesn't matter if someone can hear it or not, it can simply be proven that they do impact the audio in some way. My ears aren't that good anymore (yes, we're old geezers) so some of the demos posted sound pretty much the same to me as well. Especially some of his saturation plugs are hard for me to hear them actually doing anything, but I rather blame that on my aging ears then on the quality of his plugins.Teksonik wrote:I always find it hilarious when Bootsie releases one of his Placebos that anyone who doesn't like them must be deaf or stupid or their monitors suck, they're on drugs or any number of other flaws relating to their DNA.........![]()

i can hear antress plugs, no question. whether they're 'as good as waves' in some situations, i don't know. in either event, antress plugs definitely can 'do things'.
bootsy's slickhdr can definitely be heard to be having an effect, just by turning it on/off.
the effect is kind of cool. i'm not an audio engineer but could probably play one on tv.
bootsy definitely seems to have 'his own brand of saturation'.

i don't get the discussion 'bout this plugin being a placebo...at all!....i'm on mac so i only heard the sound example, though the effect was not subtle at all
. (i'm on headphones/VRM btw.) ... it's quite nice btw

am i the only one who can't get it as loud as it was for A/B comparison?
after setting P1 and P2 and nothing yellow, the volume is already so high that even the trim knob can't get it down to original volume ...
not meant as criticism... maybe i'm doing something wrong?
thanks for help!

This one was really nice! Does some really nice things which no other plugin AFAIK does. As an UAD owner I would say this one could definitly be a UAD plugin at like $250...
I haven't got my head around it exactly yet, but it makes my test sounds percieved better but still not higher overall volume.
Any chance that 64bit version will be available?

Well, judging by your track record, you are certainly not stupid (and most certainly NOT deaf).Teksonik wrote:I always find it hilarious when Bootsie releases one of his Placebos that anyone who doesn't like them must be deaf or stupid or...or....or...
But it is obvious you have something against Herbert and/or his plugs (consciously or sub-consciously). I don't know what is it but it makes your mind "reject" anything good that being said about the plugs, from the outset. fact.
I give you utter respect as you are a gifted sound designer but you'll have let go, this time around. I sit here with my on-board sound card (if you can call it that way) and the different is day-and-night (between processed/unprocessed audio). I have my questions as to what is the benefit to the AESTHETICS (mind you - aesthetics are not about what you see, but about the delicate balance between what you see - or hear, for that matter - and what you DON'T) just as I do have questions about HDR in video, BTW. but truth be told : the process "exposes" more (little or a LOT) within a given strip of dynamic range (hence the acronym : HDR).
It's OK to not like a plug... just don't tell others what to think of it (just as you don't like being said that you are "stupid" or "deaf").
Thanks

Typical Teksonik response for quite a while now.Teksonik wrote:I always find it hilarious when Bootsie releases one of his Placebos ...
I'm rolling with VoS plugins for some time. And while some of it is not my cup of tea, it's definitely not(!!!) placebo. The added effects (saturation, sound shaping from filter courves, etc) can be clearly measured with known tools. It can also be clearly heard (if overdone).
It is less of a placebo than Crysonic - not to mention definitely more documented. And you should know me, I literally pull apart every plugin prior to proper usage in VSTPlugin Analyzer. I learned my lessons since Crysonic. So you can definitely trust me on this, that it's not(!) placebo (same with possible mentions of Slate Digital - the effects can be clearly measured and recreated every time!).
"The Emperor's New Clothes" analogy doesn't apply here - sorry.
Whether or not it's pleasant or usable lies on a whole different ballpark.

Noone in their sober mind would say anthing like that about this plugin after testing it.
I can measure the difference, therefor it's not placebo (and its not only increasing volume to "cheat" like some other commercial plugins do...).

If my ears weren't enough, the fact that it doesn't null out and you can measure its behavior in an analyzer makes it blatantly clear that it's not placebo... That's just an unfounded criticism, full stop. Say you don't like it or that it doesn't work for you well or whatever, but claiming that it doesn't do anything is nonsense.

I think, what he meant was the fact, that 90% of the people praising this plugin here just do it out of hype, and not because it's actually good.crimsonwarlock wrote:Calling it a placebo is factually wrong, as his plugins do at least 'something'.
Or maybe he just has a problem with unjustified hype.Tp3 wrote:But it is obvious you have something against Herbert and/or his plugs (consciously or sub-consciously).
I personally like and use some of Bootsies plugins.
The saturation in them is useful and works really well on certain things.
Also the EpicVerb is a cool effect, and I think the delay was quite good as well.
But people are always acting like they got the holy grail, when Bootsie releases a new plugin, which is (especially in this case) totally ridiculous.
