Of course not... But the browser on the left side makes more sense to me.

Ok got it...
kennyda wrote: you can't undock it.
That's bad... For a better UI workflow, this is crucial.
kennyda wrote: You can Launch Bitwig Studio with up to 3 windows so you could keep one open with the browser in.
Hehehe, sorry but that's a no go for me.
kennyda wrote: Why don't you like it on the right?
The distance...

The drag and drop operation in a large monitor will be a nightmare.
Btw, I'm used to apps like FL Studio where the browser is on the left side (you can move to the right if you want btw), but the main issue is the distance...

NOW if the Bitwig team could implement some sort of tab/switch between inspector/browser on the left side, it would be great... :tu:

i do prefer the inspector on the left and the browser on the right a lot more then inverted..

A fully customizable interface would be nice for individuals to make their own choices.

For example, in looking at the Bitwig videos, I notice that both the browser and inspector extend all the way to the bottom. This makes the device panel narrower. Considering how much I dislike scrolling left/right in the Live device panel, I'm guessing I would rather the browser be a bit shorter and have the space for the device chains.

Likewise, with a fully customizable setup, one could tab the browser and inspector together on the left.

And of course, different tasks might favor different layouts so a few savable layouts with hotkeys means one can swiftly switch between them.

All that said, I expect I would be plenty happy with it as is and it would not be on a list of important (to me) features for Bitwig to focus on in subsequent updates.

Btw, if that comes in the v1.1 it would be nice....

Hmm, good points guys. If they could do it without making things more complicated it could be worth it.

I don't suppose it loads Live packs? I've got some stuff that I'd like to go ahead and delete if its not compatible.

Now, that is asking quite a bit

Yea I agree. It seems that the important spaces are too easily narrowed by the other spaces. The areas I prioritize are as follows, track>pianoroll>plugin>mixer>... I always feel unconfortable when using Live on not large screen. The track is so cramped.... "All Buttons on One Screen" is so nice for the package on the shelf but not necessarily useful in the practical situation :/ Inb4 massive function button tapping to show/hide areas.

Loading Live packs? Yeah I'm assuming it doesn't. I just don't want to delete this stuff and then find out I can salvage it later on.

I'm just thinking that the "live packs" were not something that they tested. I dunno though, maybe I'm just wacky.

You are mostly likely right. I'm just looking for confirmation. Or maybe there's a way to extract the samples from a Live pack so I can load them up on Bitwig's sampler myself. I'll have to google around for that.

Edit. Looks like I can try to install them in ableton and then pick the wavs out of the ableton library. Hopefully It works with the demo, I'll have to try it out: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 2&t=256263

I was very used to the browser on the left side from Ableton Live, but found that I prefer the arrangement in Studio One a lot, where by default the inspector is also on the left and the browser on the right side as in BWS.
I also prefer track headers on the left a hundred times over Lives version on the right - I don't know why it feels more logical although it isn't. ;-)

With that said: There are ATM two screen layouts for single screens, the one most here refer to is Single Display (large), but there is also Single Display (small), which has the inspector and the browser both on the right side full height (which makes sense since otherwise you have too little space and need to scroll too much on a big screen.

So I personally find the factory layouts pretty much spot on, but if enough people find it important, I guess more layouts are possible or maybe over time it may even become fully customizable.

Thankfully, mouse travel distance is less of a topic with a Wacom tablet. ;-)

As for Live Packs: I have no idea about their inner structure. I just tried and you can't drag one onto Bitwig. If the samples are in an open format, one could reuse them after unpacking with Live I guess, but I also always wondered why there isn't a Live Sampler to Kontakt or SFZ kind of conversion tool...

Cheers,

Tom

@ThomasHelzle: where can I see screenshots of these factory layouts?

I think that's kind of why I don't like it. When you are starting off a project you add your items right there next to the controls and it feels very much like putting something "in a track." With ableton it feels kinda like there is just "time" and your mixing and inputs and stuff are things you worry about when you want. Not a big thing though.

Thanks. I'm about to grab the demo and see if I can get at the samples.
