Does anyone know where you can get hold of the music videos that come out for less "commercial" music? I'm thinking of the more artistic stuff like the video for Amon Tobin's wonderful "Four Ton Mantis", Tool's "Schism" or UNKLE's "Rabbit in the Headlights". All classic videos but all the local record stores sell are mainstream music DVD's and anyway I don't want a whole album - just individual videos/tracks. If you ask for them the shop assistants just give you this blank look

Ideally I'd like a site where I can download them from and make my own compilation (maybe like a Napster or Itunes for music vids or something).

Try DC (or even kazaa) to download those things.
I wanted kraftwerks video for "the robots" and found it directly.
On kazaa, less "mainstream" music tend to be easier to download... no queues...

What really p's me off is the music companies seem to treat the videos as disposable commodities - despite throwing away millions into these projects they are treated more like adverts really - even if the peformer has gone to great efforts to make an original work of art they seem to make little effort to market the video as a product in it's own right, why can't they setup a site to download and purchase their video's. It's a disgrace really - even from the point of view of wastefulness.

btw - I'm also looking for one of the first videos ever which was done for Frank Zappa's "City of tiny lights" (I saw it on the Old Grey Whistle Test years ago and always thought it was one of the best I've ever seen).

I don't use Kazaa - too much effort for too little reward if you are looking for smething obscure, it may be better for more popular stuff but you are always waiting for the right person to let you in. Bittorrent may be a better option though if anyone knows any sites - though I'm happy to pay it seems the record companies don't care to bother selling properly - and then have the cheek to complain about piracy!

Kazaa is evil.
Only usefull for finding the latest Britney track and/or 30 sec bad porn clips.

Thanks a lot - that is a great site and they have the Amon Tobin and UNKLE videos - fantastic!! :)

They have lots of hard to find stuff - even Add N to X's excellent but very sexy-rude synthpop track - Plug Me in - oooooooh

Only problem is most are not downloadable but there are ways around that ;)

Quality is not perfect though - 256K max :( - so maybe I need to find somewhere to get them on DVD from???

Can't say I'm a fan of Add N to X, but that really is a great tune and video. They used to have the video up at iFilm or AtomFilms, one of those online movie sites.

This Sputnik7 has some good stuff.

Cheers,
Steve
