Recorded midi out of sync in Cubase

Hi.
I am running Cubase 2.01 and i have this strange problem.
When i play a midi-instrument the notes places themself on the wrong places when i record them. Mostly I end up with the instrument playing "to early" on the timeline.
This forces me to manually replace all the notes when i am going to listen to what i have played.
The out-of-sync-time is different on every recording so its pretty annoying.

My PC-system is very good with no "capacity-problems" and i dont have this problem with Cakewalk.
A friend of mine also experience the same thing and we cant figure out how to solve it.

I would appreciate it very much if someone could help me with this.

You´r not alone, this is a very well know issue with Cubase. Steinberg have known about it for years but does´nt give a shit for some very strange reason.

What you can do to temporarily fix it is to go into "Devices" - "Device Setup" - "Windows MIDI" and click "Reset" then "Ok". This will fix the timing for about 5 minutes or so (might screw up again if you make a new midi track and assign a new VSTi to it), then you will have to do it all over again when the notes starts to get messed up.

I am having a similar problem, not with recording
though. I am using the sonicbytes ERA step sequencer
which sends midi as a VSTi to Cubase and it is trigger early, ahead of the beat.
Let me know if you figure anything out.

Best place to look for help is surely here .

This has been discussed many, many times, and the fix is quite simple.

Go look for it

Tell me about it!!!

Also, here this guy has done a bit of research.

I have come to the conclusion that Steinberg will need to issue a statement on approved equipments
for use with Cubase SX. The test software he has written works.

funkster1: There is no proper one solution fix for this as far as i know.

Wich could be the reason why it has been discussed so many times before....

Thank you all very much for helping me.
Is what Erki means here that things will work ok for a long time if i dont make new Midi-tracks and/or assign new VSTi?

Or can it mess up again even if i do "nothing"?

Thanks again for the help

A few hints:
First go here and search for "Midi ignore Filter" in the knowledgebase.

You may have to experiment a bit, most depending on your audiocard/midi interface.
For some of them you need to install your DAW in STANDARD PC mode when installing WinXP. You can do it afterwards too, but sometimes it will create problems. I did forth and back without any issues though.

It really pays to have a dedicated PC to make music, or at least, create a DUAL-BOOT System.

Hope that helps

P.S.: Until now, I don´t know of anyone who didn´t solve this, one way or another, who followed the advices given @cubase.net
