WOW Thanks for this. Takes me back to my college days. Still got 3 foot high and rising on LP and most of their early tracks on 12" vinyl, think the last vinyl of theirs I bought was Saturday's Roller Skating or maybe a few remixes after.michael2 wrote:they're celebrating their 25th anniversary and giving everything away for 25 hours:

Westwood.
Capital radio.
Or is that Capitol radio.
12-2am
or was that 11-3am?
De La Soul.
What hip hop means.
(shame you can't nick beats like that any more in the corporate fascist age).

LOL you can do the same as they did, unfortunatley the 80's were no different to now. They got ripped financially for me, myself and i. Also if anyone recalls M|A|R|R|S, Pump up the Volume, made no or reportedly very little money on their sampled packed number 1 hit on both sides of the Alantic.codec_spurt wrote: (shame you can't nick beats like that any more in the corporate fascist age).
But it was the sampling and digging that attracted me to Hip Hop, the ingenuity of taking other tracks and making them sound as your own. Hip Hop today is just lost on me in general!

It was the sampling that turned me off of De La Soul. I remember hanging out with a friend one day, and some other friend of his dropped by to play us his De La Soul album. We both started laughing, and then had to explain to this guy that the "song" we were listening to was almost entirely a loop sampled from a Depeche Mode song. (please feel free to fill me in on which De La Soul track that was)
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

Takes me back to my days in the retirement home. God, I must have been only 97 then. Where has the time gone?
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.
