Zebralette and virtual midi keyboard

I just loaded Zebralette (64) and I can't get the patches to change from what I think must be default settings.

I am running in Reaper (64) and using the virtual midi keyboard to trigger sounds (my Emu 49's USB link just gave up the ghost).

I look at tutorials and see users changing patches on the fly and morphing through them. When I try to change a patch the settings change on the virtual instrument and the displayed name of the selected patch updates, but the sound stays the same (a boring simple tone with no effects on it).

I tried the demo version of Zebra2 as well and that was the same, except the sound it is stuck on is a much more interesting burbling thing that swishes around quite nicely.

The connections in Reaper look correct.

Am I missing something obvious?

Just sorted it myself by clearing cache and rescanning for VSTs. Had to be something simple :=)
