Casale was a great guitarist, always right there but always himself.

The band cleverly conveyed a message. On the surface it seemed like comedic nonsense but underneath they were very serious about their 'mission statement' (imho). RIP.

Underneath the "comedic nonsense", underneath the "mission statement" was a tight, very spare, sometimes almost minimalist hard-rocking punk band. They started good and they just got better. And not just a synth band - Casale's guitar work was like the spine of every song (up until the "Shout" album).

The band has ties to the sinister Church of the SubGenius through its leader Ivan Stang.
