What you're proposing is adding non-essential features. No one, repeat, NO ONE is complaining about the original TB-303 not having patch memory. It's such a simple machine that it's not necessary. I'm guessing those who are complaining about this have never touched a real TB-303, so it wouldn't surprise me that you don't get it.kangul wrote:MFXxx wrote:Well, yes, I meant - in addition to absolutely necessary total recall feature, there's absolutely no reason to cut down essential digital synth capabilities.

Misquote
I'm simply curious and being thoughtful about a few functions that may be beneficial in the new era of modern age and advancements in technologies...I'm not even comparing this to the original 303, that would be more of the realm of xobox or the Cyclone. Of course there's many out here that are feeling rather let down by the lack of Rolands non 'real' analog release, Korg seem to be the only ship in a bottle with that current niche.
Furthermore I'm not even complaining! Yes I've been fortunate to have played on 303, 101 and plenty of other kit. I understand! Back in the 80's memory = ram wasn't really an option and yet here we are 25+ years on. It's a simple change in life and workflow. As far as live spontaneous acid jams go...had plenty of times flashing back to wishing I had slammed on the 4 track tape recorder. That was back in the day, there we are then!

Anyway, with proper midi output TB-3 may be also interesting as hardware sequencer for basic techno tracks.

I agree with MFXxx.MFXxx wrote: It's a simple change in life and workflow.
@DJMaytag - yup, no one complain about the lack of patch memory in the original TB-303, but there's good 30 years between it and brand new TB-3...
Peace and tolerance

Mebbe there will be another AIRA module, made specifically for song sequencing/arranging and patch storage/recall via MIDI sys-ex, that will unify the entire range.
Something like the MC50/MC80 but with large graphical display and touchscreen.
Onboard sampler too perhaps? It's not really a complete dance setup without a full-featured sequencer and sampler.
Mebbe they should have styled the FA workstations to look like part of the AIRA range?

Nice idea....I'm gonna hook mine up to my Boss RC505, but the above would be nice.......meldavid wrote:Mebbe there will be another AIRA module, made specifically for song sequencing/arranging and patch storage/recall via MIDI sys-ex, that will unify the entire range.

This was my first thought. Actually, my first thought was "Oh, they're re-packaging VariOS." Then i remembered what happened to it.bungle wrote:...

I said that in the thread about "Roland into developing VST". VariOS appeared ten years ago, heralded as the next big thing, and it ended the way we know.Jace-BeOS wrote:This was my first thought. When I read the announcement, I thought to myself: "Again? They are coming with promises about a brighter future again, after ten years?"
And again, without having ANYTHING to show to us, and the first announcement is not exactly one that made me jump - an SH-101... really?

Firstly I am excited about these releases even if it Is VA.
But... BUT........ The System 1, only has 1 LFO. Just one! This is a digital synth, and music today is based on heavy modulation. I can understand if it was pure analog having one 1 LFO, but a digital synth with only 1 LFO makes no sense to me.
Novation managed to put 2 LFOs on the bass station 2, the moogs have 2 LFOs, the korg ms20 can fake a second LFO with creative patching and these are all analogue. But roland with its digital synth only has one. WTF!

Personally i almost 95% of my time never need an LFO in sound design, and when i need, one is enough but i do get your point. It's not Zebra or something so you guys will have to live with it or simply pass it. Plenty of other gear available - with two LFO..

I really dig TB-3. I don't care how faithful it emulates the sound of the original unit and I especially like what most ppl seem to hate about it: that it comes with presets
I'm not a knob tweaker fan so the lack of options in that department don't bother me either. It's decently priced - although I would have liked it a lot more if it was 100 cheaper - in Volca's price range. I love Korg (most of my stuff has their logo) and I think the Volcas are bang on, but they lack 2 things (which are deal breakers for me): no presets/no saving, and the lack of really distinctive sounds - which is Roland's strong point with these new products. I mean when I first heard the demo videos for TB-3 I instatnly had flashbacks with some really cool '90s music (some of those basses sound so close to eralier Prodigy, yum yum).
Synth-1 seems cool and has some clever features (being able to host other Roland synths sounds like an awesome idea - depending on how well it will be implemented) but the price is too steep for me. For that money I can get a Tetra (yeah, I know it's a totally different animal...but a damn good one).
All in all, at last Roland has managed to come up with some exciting toys
They've been too quiet these last years

BS, just pick up a Novation Zero if you want realtime knob tweaking for any VST. I really don't see anything worth watching over the Aria line. Tal already did the SH-101 exceptionally well and there are many other x0x VSTs such as Phoscyon, Venom and the upcoming ABL3.dashfiss wrote:Can you hug a VST? Can you kiss a VST?
