Let's not forget the Helicopter sound building anticipation for the drop (insert sound of something hitting toilet water here please)..Sendy wrote:Let me guess, it has a rising siren effect and speeding up snare rush going into the drop, the drop consists of a simple three-note synth riff and pounding kick, then the whole thing gets pitched up higher and higher (to make it exciting), then you get an atmospheric *boof* and a bar or two of relative silence, and the whole thing kicks off again with a subtle layer of extra percussion or something.billcarroll wrote:You'll all be pleased to know Martin Garrix has another #1 on Meatport with (swing it like a) "Helicopter"

It nearly destroyed my ears because the volume of the track is so high...billcarroll wrote:You'll all be pleased to know Martin Garrix has another #1 on Meatport with (swing it like a) "Helicopter"

Everything else sounds pretty boring, maybe that's why the volume has to be so high to make it more impressive.

Well, that was my pre-listening review I did for a laugh, just to see how close I could predict how the track was gonna be. Turns out I wasn't far off. Either the music is generic pabulum or I'm freaking Nostradamusbillcarroll wrote:Let's not forget the Helicopter sound building anticipation for the drop (insert sound of something hitting toilet water here please)..Sendy wrote:Let me guess, it has a rising siren effect and speeding up snare rush going into the drop, the drop consists of a simple three-note synth riff and pounding kick, then the whole thing gets pitched up higher and higher (to make it exciting), then you get an atmospheric *boof* and a bar or two of relative silence, and the whole thing kicks off again with a subtle layer of extra percussion or something.billcarroll wrote:You'll all be pleased to know Martin Garrix has another #1 on Meatport with (swing it like a) "Helicopter"

The mixing and mastering is about the only impressive thing about most of this music. And it can be undone with a simple twist of the volume knob (preferably, right down to zero).

Its so distorted that the whole ecosystem is close to just being upside down.jancivil wrote:"earn" more respect than "some usual developers"? Respect from whom? Any developer has BUILT something. A 'reverse engineer' has not, it's right there in the term. But to you, it's the parasite riding on the back of the thing 'earns' more respect. Because they're needed. They're helping! That is a seriously distorted use of language. Your whole bit is
The players might be,
-The Dev
-The cracker
-The successful producer, using warez
-The 100% legit successful producer
-The superstar DJ (who may or may not be legit)
Out of the lot, its the DJ who is getting the most respect.
Turns out, the DJ also gets most of the money, and everything else.
The one doing the least, is king.
And no one cares if the DJ is legit or not.
And true, no one cares much if the producers are legit either, whether they are successful or not, but then the masses dont care about the producers at all, successful or not...
Out of the group, the one with the lowest chance at getting the smallest reward out of the biggest investment- is the dev; the one actually doing the work, creating what everything else is sitting on.

So are we not fans of the formulaic, comfortably familiar composition style of these club heroes then?
But...the bass...and the...the pumping, kick ducking compressor werk what they studiously gots from a tutorial on the youtube...and...the cool hair. Surely we like the cool hair, the heady heights of cultural identity, yeah?

In all fairness, I probably like some of what gets called EDM (never been entirely sure what that encompasses) but that track was bleedin awful! I want my lost minute back! If anyone watched that youtube thing I posted for a laugh, then I'll count that as revenge! Have at ya!
Almost everything I don't like about electronic music vomitted into my ears.
