I've never used Live groove pool that much so this may not help you but one of my favorite features of BWS is the 'Snap to Object' setting for the grid. In addition to the typical 'Snap to Grid' options, 'Snap to object' allows your cursor to snap to un-quantized Note events or even audio objects and onsets (Bitwig's term for slices or transients).

So if you have a drum loop or whatever in the form of an audio clip, you can turn on the 'Snap to Object' setting to conform MIDI notes to the drum loop's groove. Just use the layered editing and when you move MIDI notes around the notes will snap to the position of the drum hits.

Wow, this thing blew up!

BTW, thanks to virtualmark. I think I ran into that on a project yesterday.

Does BWS got midi note names? With studio one you can see the pad/key names in the pianorol... And im curious if it does to vst also?! Specially fxpansion geist. In studio one you got 8 engines and when you rename your pads they,re visible and not only on midi channel 1 its visible on all 8 channels/engines. Also with RMV ,tx16 sampler and short circuit2 sampler (whos btw claes from bitwig, correct me if im wrong) Its a real important thing for me.

I like that feature and look forward to trying it. However, I would not consider it a suitable replacement for being able to extract/save a groove and have a library and be able to easily audition/apply that groove to one or multiple clips. I hope Bitwig devs add groove tools soon. It is one of those things that does not have easy workarounds.

btw, how would you rate the transient detection in Bitwig?

I'll probably buy BW, or at least demo it.

Anyways.... in the meantime... WATCH OUT!!

Don't ask me, I just play here.

This sounds cool. I guess you could save clips just for the grooves. I assume you can do the same with midi? There are many free groove template midi files that could be useful if that's the case.
Obviously a dedicated solution would be preferable but this will work.

On an unrelated note, do you think we will ever see a Nektar drum machine (apc, livid base, launch pad, push) style midi controller?

As you say this is working for the internal devices such as the Drum Machine and Multi Sampler.

Tested Geist, it does not appear to be working for VST plugins. Since features like VST multi-outs won't make the initial release of Bitwig, but will be added later, I would guess note naming falls in the same category.

Peace,
Andy.

Well thanx for testing! Absolutly a big bummer for me. We.ll see in the future.
Maybe have to look to JACK. in that matter.
Or completly have to get used with the internal devices.
Anyhow thank you so much for testing, need to rethink my divorce with So1.

Think about Polygamy.

Hi,

Nimano45, you'll be able to try both yourself when Bitwig is released on March the 26th.
Meanwhile, looking at the video, it's obvious that Bitwig Studio is a better daw for me.

I do like a lot what I have seen in the latest official videos about Bitwig Studio.

- The switch between clip editor and track editor
- The Instrument and effect containers (layers, X-Y ...)
- The copy/cut/paste of audio regions between transients in an audio clip
- The way to change velocity distribution (on the videos it looks like acting on standard deviation)

Can we play with midi quantization the same way, for instance, can we re-introduce some grove (humanize) after a 100% quantization ?
