Thanks! I use KVR few times a year when I really need some info on a product. Between work, moving to 3 different countries, traveling, and making roughly 100 tracks during the period, I didn't have time to post!hibidy wrote:You have to (and I mean this seriously) admire someone who's been a member for 6 years and has made 2 posts. No thank you! I'm sure I'm not the only one majorly disappointed. I'll stick to Logic, Live and get Renoise for $78 USD instead!
No offense, but from a business standpoint, support for Audio Units is far more important than Linux support.
About audio units, it probably has to deal with the sandbox vst feature. They probably had a hard time fixing it for all audio units. Then try it with all rtas/aax and vst3... Etc...
Windows and Linux users don't use audio units, so it becomes a one platform feature. It's version 1.0 after all and I'm sure most plugins are vst compatible.
You can still get the beta. Try out what they offer without making a crazy set up change.
I find it harsh that people slash out for missing on this or that or using these. It's not even out yet :X

I'm not on mac, so I really couldn't give a rats, BUT seems to me that AU is VERY important for mac users. Linux? I don't even understand that being a viable direction at all. In fact, there are so few audio linux users that I completely don't understand why that is more important than AU for mac (a WELL established format)
Just sayin'

Seems simple to me: More users would use Linux if there were more professional grade software for it.
If more software is available, more plugin developers will think about porting theirs to Linux.
Linux being a rather underdeveloped audio platform makes it more interesting actually in a certain way.
OSX on the other hand is pretty saturated with audio software and the direction Apple is going is at least questionable (IMO they are over their peak for a while now and some of the latest developments are, well, funny. I personally don't expect anything really interesting from them anymore).
Just doing what everybody does isn't always the best way of doing things.
I personally like developers who are making "interesting" decisions over "same same"
YMMV of course...
Cheers,
Tom

Pretty much what he said. It's a wider market. There's a higher chance that you switch from Linux with 2-4 strong daws that you switch from windows/Mac with 4-10 different options.
If you notice 99% of daws try to lock you in their software. Ableton has max4life, Pro tools has their own AAx, logic has audio units, cubase and studio one have vst/vst3. Even the way they save files are exclusive for each daw.
Each one try to impose their format so that companies only release for their daw. Even so vst has always been the major format and probably was the reason bitwig decided for it.
I believe you need to pay certain money to make an aax plugin for pro tools because of patent. That might be true for apple and audio units or they might just want to convert people from audio units into vst. They probably want to push the market away from apple. Logic is the only daw that comes straight out of the box with macs/win/Linux. Which secure that people might try it and stay with it. And you already paid for it by buying a Mac even if it's v. 9 or 10.
I would say pro tools is a well establish software, but they have trouble convincing people to switch their rtas to aax.

No, not exactly--I was just saying that out of respect for those trying to carry on a conversation about bitwig, that the cat pics should stay out of the other thread since there is information being given, and an active beta process happening.hibidy wrote:Hey now, I thought you said something that the cat pics were getting old! Are you prejudice per thread?ontol wrote:Bitwig User's manual, pg. 1
You'll notice I also call out information givers in this thread--although both are more tongue-in-cheek than anything.
