Hi Squids

I asked you for some time ago if it´s possible to get sampletank2 as vsti only, and you told me to e-mail Dan at Esounds.
Well, i never get an answer from him but du you still think it´s possible and if it is, then what shall i do to get in contact.

I have sonic synth and would really like to have the extra options to tweak the sounds with the new engine as well to have 16 midi channels to play with.

I´m really not interested in more sounds(samples)because more is not allways better i think. I rather like to play with what i got, understand me right

Devon, I think you'll probably like Sonik Synth 2 because it has more of the things you've expressed appreciation for. But, I also think you're not the easiest person to please so... who knows? I know that it's more along the lines of what I wanted Sonic Synth 1 to be in terms of being a "synth workstation"... one of them being that it actually has synth parameters to tweak! But, also things like acoustic guitars with mutes, slides and other Motif/XV-esque type sounds as well as the massive analog, digital and modular synth waves in there.

Sonik Synth 2 is not the kind of product where it's meant to be judged as a sample library. A lot of the samples are actually elements meant to be put together in combis. But, we have spent a great deal of time on them so they are useful and have their place. It's just that workstation type instruments don't usually have 100% of it designed to please one person but rather there is something for everyone within it (and hopefully enough to justify the value for what someone gets out of it). I am pretty confident that this is really unique and special. We've put more love and care into this than what is commercially reasonable for a company to do given the return. But, it's more fun to also be proud of that extra work and to be honest I am always half making these things for myself to enjoy.

Olepro, if you mean an "engine-only" version of SampleTank 2, then yes you can get that from dan@esoundz.com but for something like $29 more you can have the L version (while it's still available) and then for that you get 4 discs of sounds... so you might as well. But, it's up to you. Anyway, email Dan and he'll set you up either way.

I just got a Fantom XR sitting in my studio, and am quite pleased with what they did with 128 megs of ROM data. No, I don't like EVERY preset, but it's got some great stuff under the hood.

Layers layers layers, and a decent amount of tweaking help make so-so sounds into works of art. But I'm sure I'm preachin' to the choir here.

Still, look forward to it.

Just kidding. Anyway, it doesn't replace everything every workstation synth (or any synth) can do. It's an animal of it's own. A big part of it is also not just the PCM workstation type thing but more of a synth anthology and platform for new sounds mixing these particular elements that are unique to Sonik Synth 2. Some of that appreciation may be esoteric. I mean, SOMEBODY is going to be extra thrilled to have the waves from over 20 punch cards for the RMI Keyboard Computer in there... 99% of most people won't even know what I am talking about! But, that's okay too because it's the combination of elements whether it's this or a glass harmonica or irish female vocal choirs doing an Enya "ahh" pad... it all gets put together into interesting and inspiring patches.

Don't you wish. I'm easy. Think of all the hardware zealots out there that 'If it's software it MUST be junk!' I'm at least reasonable, but been exposed to an awful lot in the last 15 or so years.

It'd be their loss and I say that not only about Sonik Synth 2 but a lot of software instruments that many other people are able to make great use of.

Anyway, the target audience for Sonik Synth 2 is made up of lovers of different brand vintage synths, ethereal and evolving pads, workstation synth preset playing, easy editing and cool processing with modeled fx built-in etc. We're not trying to convince any hardware "zealots" to do anything. That's up to them. But, for the people looking for what I was just saying... Sonik Synth 2 offers serious bang for the buck! That's all. It depends on what one is looking for and expecting. Since it is based on the SampleTank 2 engine I think many people around here know what to expect in terms of what SR would do with that as the basis for a version 2.

Patrik,

Squids can give you the oficial answer, but I believe he has said in the past that SS2 will be a closed system without the ability to load additonal samples. I believe the game plan is to have ST2 be the "mothership" where you can load samples for all the variety of SR offerings, i.e. SS1, SS2, eRoms, SPhonik, etc.

SampleTank 2 is the software that can read all SampleTank format products including eROMS, Sonic Synth 1 or Sonik Synth 2 sounds, Sonik Capsules etc. It is endlessly expandable with samples and that's why it is the Tank o' Samples.

Sonik Synth 2 on the other hand is a synth module designed to be more about patches referencing a massive sample set specifically for it's genre which is a cross between a workstation synth and a vintage synth anthology and a futuristic sounding synth. Kind of like a time machine. It's endlessly expandable via patches and combis with an infinite possible mixture of the elements and parameters within. It could potentially be expandable with specific sample sets down the road though but dgkennedy is right in that initially it is a closed to it's "internal" sample set like Atmosphere or other software sound modules are.
