ME-80 is probably the closest to CS-80 in software... It's better than Arturia's.

Are you 100% sure that flute sound comes from the CS80 raw and without any effects/eq on it ?

Of course that preset would be just a good start for tweaking, there are many possible fluteish sounds on that synth, maybe add some noise osc, or increase the detune a bit.

at 1:59 he plays a similar flute.

Its hard to see what synth he is using, but i think its a CS-80
I have both arturia and ME80.

Seems most of those audio examples are gone :? Was wondering which sound the op meant...

Ah, now it works, it didn't when I tried earlier...
Anyway, sounds like a regular synth guitar. I suppose you mean that sound, there seem to be two patches...
I guess I still have the memorymoon synth, let's see :)

I originally meant the lead sound from 'The unknown man'.

Also, when someone here asked about a flute in 1492, I always had in mind the synth-y flute-y beautiful sound from Monastery of La Rabida, which I've been trying to reproduce for ages.

This is my latest attempt:

:D :D

LE: then it violently struck me when I saw this video:

I think Vangelis used preset 51 - Hearts of Space (look at min 14:22)... Something in my brain tells me that's the sound used in Monastery of La Rabida :) Can anyone confirm this?

no, it doesn't sound like the original to me. same with the flute, it sound very organic therefore i think Didier Malherbe (who's got credits on the album for flute) played it on a real flute.

What? A real flute? He bought seven CS80 synths each weighting 100kg and then use a real flute?

vangelis is well known for his collaborations with many other musicians and he's a multi-instrumentalist themself. what's so bad about a real flute? flute-wise i dont think CS80 can do better if you have somebody with the skills Malherbe have.

thanks, overlooked that... what really f***s me up all the time is actually the melody itself... it's still after all that time very unusual, yet it just "works" as if it is a very commercial approached melody, which it definateley isn't, strictly musical-wise...

on the contrary, i was sometimes thinking what would have happened, if someone took 4 things away from vangelis: the cs80/60, the vp330, the suitcase and the reverb... i really wonder if his music would have had such an impact to the public, at least it was those 4 technical things that he used over and over... even more than the cs80 and the suitcase i actually love how he used the vp330... those choirs and strings are still the most creamy analog pads ever used, maybe besides his old analog organs he used on la mort de loup and the likes... :D
Yeah, 'cause he sounded terrible before the CS80, etc ... ;)
