Damn, so plugins like Cthulhu won't work then. Can I rewire Bitwig into Cubase? That might get around this limitation.ThomasHelzle wrote:- Midi routing between tracks doesn't exist yet (Beta 11.5)

And no multiple outputs. In summary, Bitwig 1.0's VST support is rudimentary at best.ThomasHelzle wrote: - Midi routing between tracks doesn't exist yet (Beta 11.5).
I honestly don't get it.

You can use midi generators within one track, which solves most of the problems that other hosts have with such devices (and therefore need multiple tracks for it).virtualmark wrote:Damn, so plugins like Cthulhu won't work then. But yeah, better Midi routing is high on my list as well.

Tom

Or simply use Minihost Modular or Metaplugin.virtualmark wrote:Damn, so plugins like Cthulhu won't work then. Can I rewire Bitwig into Cubase? That might get around this limitation.ThomasHelzle wrote:- Midi routing between tracks doesn't exist yet (Beta 11.5)

There's no rewire.
thanks for the input guys
@Thomas It's true that Bitwig seems closer to Live standard than Suite but considering that there is one version of Bitwig and you actually get or will get some key features that don't come with standard I think it's fair to compare to both.
For example you got the upcoming modular system but also according to ableton's site you don't even get the main instruments like Analog and Operator with standard
And what's with this?

There is now a chromatic audio to midi device? That's a big deal.ThomasHelzle wrote:- Extreme flexibility in device arrangement: Put an EQ (AudioFX) -> Bass to Midi (instrument) -> Chromaphone (Instrument) on an Audio Track and it actually works as expected, converting the EQed Bass input to midi playing Chromaphone...

No, it's a VST Plugin used to illustrate the flexibility of device routing:

For a 1.0 release comparison I disagree about the Live/Live Suite Bit.Ogopogo wrote:@Thomas It's true that Bitwig seems closer to Live standard than Suite but considering that there is one version of Bitwig and you actually get or will get some key features that don't come with standard I think it's fair to compare to both.

Live Standard is very close in price to Bitwig while Suite is much more expensive. And the Modular part isn't available until 2.0 (with unknown release date) so including that into the comparison is rather pointless for now IMO.
Live Standard <-> BWS 1.0 is the realistic and honest comparison if there needs to be one. Otherwise you get into Lala-Land IMO

I dunno. I think it boils down to the fact that Bitwig is intended to compete with Suite as well as standard. There is a bunch of other stuff that Bitwig has that only Suite has, like a sampler that you can set up your own multisample presets with, LFO device that you can connect to any parameter, drum synths, envelope follower, multimap, and maybe some other M4L devices.
The modular system isn't in yet but it will be available with a relatively cheap upgrade so that's something that might influence one's decision to drop about 400 or more on a daw.
If you don't compare to suite you leave the question of how suite fares vs Bitwig and is it worth the extra money.
You could do 2 separate comparisons, but I suppose I could just make a note or maybe add a note to each pro or con if it doesn't apply to both ableton versions to clear up any confusion. Shouldn't be too complex.
But anyway if someone is looking at this comparison I'm assuming they are familiar with Live already so I don't think it's too much to ask for them to get a grasp of the differences between Live standard and suite.

Thnx for the pic... little question... i can see on top (mixer) a small arrow at drummachine, raggaekit , does that means you can collapse it to 1 channel again? (assuming that you made the picture.) If so.. Im saved...Ogopogo wrote:I just wrote this in my other post but just so it doesn't get lost in there: You can still use sends on an individual drum pad as you can see in this screen shot: http://www.screendream.de/stuff/Bitwig/ ... So it's just a different process than the ableton way of setting up your own sends within the drum rack instrument. I actually prefer having the sends on the mixer strips instead.

Yes you can, just like Live iirc. Just know that's how it works with the drummachine and intrument layer stuff that are groups in themselves, but there is no real groups feature right now that will let you group any tracks you want.

Hi,pdxindy wrote:My understanding with Bitwig is that you will have to put a midi device before each instrument to define the key or velocity range. Then if you want to change it you have to go to each layer and edit that device.
Live racks are a thing of beauty. The rack itself has key and velocity splits built in and each has the fade handles also for blending. You also have the chainer so you can use say the Modwheel to switch between active layers. It takes seconds to make complex key/velocity splits.
Can someone confirm this please :
Under BWS, to make splits or layers in a "Layer Rack Device", we first have to put "Midi devices" in it ?
This midi device does not allow to modify the velocity response curve, so we won't be able to do cross fading between instruments ?
Cheers,
B.

I thought that a click on the Inst Layer device's gear icon would bring some layer settings similar to Live's instrument rack ...ZenPunkHippy wrote:Here's a screen shot of a keyboard split using the built in poly synth.
"Note Filter" on the right is inside "Note FX" for the poly synth. Each synth in the Instrument Layer device is assigned a different range of notes. In this case the top synth is only playing bass notes (0 - 48). The next 2 instrument layers play higher notes, hard panned left / right. Unique effects may be assigned to each instrument since each layer is basically a complete device chain.
Peace,
Andy.

No, it works better cause you only need one track. Put in Cthulhu and then whatever instrument you want to drive.virtualmark wrote:Damn, so plugins like Cthulhu won't work then. Also for the Con list:
Bitwig does not have rewire
