SERIOUSLY, wtf is up with Dance music artist slamming their f**king-fists (yes, the fists you f**k with) into the damn IVORIES!?! What is you BEEF with the piano? Did someone else come and use it to swoon your woman and take her away from you? Are you exacting your revenge for all the times you had to play Hot Cross Buns on it? Seriously, what the f**k in your problem? Cool it. It's not a damn drum kit, it's a goddammed musical instrument. It's not a nail that you hammer, it's not a woman that you pound, it's not a damn burglar in your house trying to steal your cat, IT'S A f**king PIANO!!!!!!!!! CHILL THE f**k OUT!!!

Why you've got no chance of making a living out of music

Because statistically it's a non starter, and as soon as you want to make a living out of it, you start sucking dick and the music turns crap. Usually - but not necessarily.

Most people who do make a living out of music often labour under the misapprehension that their success is due to their own talent, insight, intelligence and good looks. Whereas they usually just happened to coincide with a dip in the social fashion continuum and got thrown off on one. There is success among the genuinely talented and emotionally powerful, but it is all subject to the unpredictabilities of chance, market positioning and industry bribery. There is no formula or helpful foresight, other than knowing that if you don't get off your butt, you ain't gonna get that gold disc. It also helps to be good looking, have an attitude, a great voice, corking songs with a good hook, a rich well-connected manager, a good PR company etc etc. But these are neither necessary nor sufficient conditions for achieving anything.

If it's millions you're after, the statistics get even worse. Wait until Elton, Michael, and Billy retire or die.
-----------------------------------------------

Read the whole mini essay. It isn't much longer.

Nobody is interested in your music. Get over it. Nobody is interested in anyone else's music. You really will have to become a true whore to get ahead today. And yes, that means selling your arse, not just compromising your ideals on a photoshoot in a meat factory (wtf?).

So, don't take it personally. I'm a musical genius, but no one ever listens to my music. I was cock a hoop the other day when I got 3 people following my soundcloud account. When I later realised they had stopped following me, I mentioned this to our good buddy Karten here, and he said: oh, they were just following you to get followed back, when you didn't do that, they f**ked you out of the picture. I paraphrase, but I got the picture alright. It was like finding out there is no sanity clause!

:-)

Whaddya mean there is no sanity clause?

I think we should all form a big f**k off club of people that actually like listening to other people's music - music by people who are musical geniuses like me. I know I like listening to other people's stuff when it is as good as mine. It is pretty rare. But there must be a few good bod's around kvr. I know there are in fact. Quite a few musical genii. No one listens to their music either.

I've got this idea of mixing music with porn, actually scrap that, everyone has had that idea...

Move to london, get chummy, kiss your g/f and your health goodbye. And get a soundtrack on a propaganda tv/detective show.

Rock 'n' roll ain't what it used to be. And people genuinely question why there are mentalists like me still roaming around. We can't all be Roger Waters. Bagging Deer and Boycotting Israel!

We have this thing called the internet, and it has killed the beast. But the beast is not quite dead. We can all hear it rumble, try to get back up on its feet. But it's f**ked, let's be honest about it. Still it gets up. Everyone is just looking for a way. And not all those people make crap music. Can you feel the frisson? Can you feel the static energy between the large lumbering monoliths rubbing together? These are exciting times. It is almost as if we are on the cusp of something big.

But it's probably www III, so don't get too excited.

We make the world me live in tomorrow.
We made this world.
It is ours.

And look what we did with it.

Don't come complaining to me unless you are ready to risk life and limb.
Come and play in my garden.

But no, you're right, no one wants to listen to your shit music!

:-)

Very very few people make music worth listening to. Having said that, on downtime, if it is half decent, I can go along with it in an opium daze, and it sounds good to me.

We live in an insane society all about me me me. No one wants to listen to your music. They want you to listen to THEIR music and tell you how wonderful it is. How exceptional they are, that they are in fact more than a music making guru, but a guru of the universe for life and love....

Jesus, I never should have responded to this post. I've totally given the show away..
thanks for letting us know ...
I was completely unaware of this ...

U know. It's good to know at the end of the day, that I make some kind of impact. Even if it is just pissing off people like you with no sense of humour.

Did you think I was being serious?

Shit. Do you hate me that much?

Then again. I bet I can outplay you on guitar, out program you on drums, out sound design you on patch design. In fact, Is there anything you think you can do better than me?

I'm up for it. Oh, and I also write lyrics. Do that too?

Come on? Just me and you eh? Wanna call me out fella? Let's play? Any game you want.

But I was just joking. Then again, I can back it up. How about you?

eh?

every account on kvr must write 20 review's in a month about songs posted in the music cafe.
if you don't fulfill that condition, the account is automatically deleted at the beginning of the next month and you can't reactivate it with an already used e-mail address.

that way kvr would be a place only for true music lovers.
better than my idea.
But then my account would probably get deleted, hahahaha. I barely go to the Cafe any more anyways.

i'll ask Ben if he want to hire me for the kvr marketing depot, got plenty of new ideas, here is a image idea for a new KVR logo. :hihi:

Cause the tone all falls to the bottom of the keys, gravity ya know! If you want to dig out the good tone, you have to dig deep. It's like picking a good crusty, oh sure, you can get mucous ball that will make your sister go ewww without much effort, but if want that truly satisfying monster that looks like there's no way it could have fit in your nose, made you wince as the stuck hairs ripped out of the follicle, and yet, came out in one exquisite detailed work of art, then you know, you have to dig deep.

amiright?

ewhgh.....I shouldn't have read that while I was drinking water, I nearly gagged. You are quite good at painting rather nasty images with your words.

So if I get this straight:....I don't get it. What do boogers have to do with Image

except that kvr isnt a music site. its a site for audio tools.
iirc the cafe was added later, so making it the main focus would be a bad idea. id rather have the devs who post here working on their programming than having to work on 20 reviews a month.

you dont even have 5 reviews in music cafe for the whole last year till today and come up with this?
Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours.

I agree completely, that it's a bad idea that is, moreover, no site that relies on advertisement is going make it's readers jump through those kind of hoops; that's some naive bullshit right there. When you guys say "reviews", are you simply talking about responding to a thread in cafe and giving feedback?

I actually leave quite a bit of feedback, although I don't see where I can count up my "reviews." Nonetheless, I'd do more if the cafe had subsections for styles and required users to choose a style. I would argue that it should have at least as many categories as beatport offers, probably more. At the very least, I think that an alternative that I think would provide good focus might look something like : Academic, Ambient, Downtempo, Minimal, Underground, Indie, Experimental, Main Floor, Mainstream, Progressive.

I know that seems a bit arbitrary, but it groups things rather effectively for me. I'm sure that someone thinks that their music lies outside those groups, but I bet you that I can choose a category for your track with less than 10 seconds of browsing.

I've been catching up on the cafe vaguely over the weekends the last few weeks. Haven't found it hard to avoid the styles I hate, and find ones that I might like (I think I have pretty broad tastes, but there's some stuff I just don't want to listen to, and wouldn't be able to say anything positive about). I wouldn't mind categories, but it's non-essential - most people give a clue or two as to what to expect in the blurb on their thread anyway.

I've found good tunes just being nosey on people's soundcloud and bandcamp links and such too (and passed over pennies for some stuff), escpecially if there's been a bit of banter. Talking the toot as it were. More likely to make me curious for some reason or other.

But if you implemented a rule that said I HAD to give feedback in the cafe, then I automatically wouldn't out of spite or snarky rebellion. I'd rather not bother with the place at all if it got all totalitarian like that.

That said, I've never put anything of mine up in the cafe, so I've never put myself "out there" to get ignored, at least in that particular place. If people want to hear my tunes they can always visit my soundcloud or something. If not, fair enough. I could live with it if I was the only person who ever heard my stuff, so long as I actually like it. If I don't like my own stuff, then I'd feel bad about it.
Q. Why is a mouse when it spins?
A. The higher the fewer.
