I've been catching up on the cafe vaguely over the weekends the last few weeks. Haven't found it hard to avoid the styles I hate, and find ones that I might like (I think I have pretty broad tastes, but there's some stuff I just don't want to listen to, and wouldn't be able to say anything positive about). I wouldn't mind categories, but it's non-essential - most people give a clue or two as to what to expect in the blurb on their thread anyway.

My argument isnt' that they're essential, it's that they would increase reviews and listens. It's simply really, if I could click on minimal and know that I'm not going to click on 5 tracks that are in left field, I'd review a few more. As it is, I never go to the cafe directly, there is just too much to wade through. I only review when tracks show up on latest posts and I'm in the mood to review.

Not anal at all, otherwise it becomes a hindrance itself. That's why I suggested very broad categories that have little to do with actual musical style and more to do with a common audience.

I hear ya', I bust my ass and have pretty much no following... but f**k it, the reward is in the creation of the art it's self, right?

I just like to think I'm creating a 'catalogue', it doesn't matter if people don't listen to my music today, once it's released it's out there forever.

I love this mentality. I always like using this phrase too:

"I'm not judged by the number of times that I fail, but by the number of times that I succeed. And the number of times I succeed is in direct proportion to the number of times that I can fail and keep on trying."
