I was referring to continuous audio with no gaps - since you can't overlap snippets, you can only have hard cuts. The gain expression only helps you if you (can) leave space between them (or work with two tracks interleaving between them).dom@bitwig wrote:Only hard cuts would be boring! You have additional buttons for automatic playback of loops/samples when selected and whether or not to play them in song tempo.
And I just tried: if the sample/loop is playing, hitting right arrow stops, hitting it again (re-)starts from the beginning, so if you hit it very fast twice, you get the asked for behaviour.
You would need to try out if that fits the bill
I personally like the navigation a lot. It's interesting how pressing the left button goes to the upper browser window where you select folders and the right button goes into the folder content list in the lower pane. Other browsers often require one to switch between two such windows with a separate shortcut...

I don't understand why a crossfade feature is so crucial, I guess mainly because it's something I don't often use in my current processes; however, cannot the same affect be the result of setting the audio on multiple tracks and fade in or out via gain?
I suppose it will be more convenient if the audio clips were to be on the same track but for my work it's not that big of a deal to set multiple tracks.
I'm sure I'm missing something since so many find crossfading necessary so I am hopeful someone will take the opportunity to clue me.

Yes, you're missing out on a crucial method of editing when you're recording on one track with punch-ins. Using multiple tracks is a chore and unnecessary overhead. There are other scenarios that benefit wildly from crossfades.

Yes, its more convenient but it's one of those things that people use so heavily that convenience is completely required. The fact is that probably the vast majority of people who do digital audio are going to want to join two pieces of audio together, and crossfading is the way to do it right; without any issues like pops or gaps. Doing takes and comping them together is a normal part of the recording process.

Agree with ED. Crossfades are a pretty common edit function.
In proper context though, it's more a music production tool, not an editing tool so much yet so, not a really big deal in any way that I can see... unless someone will try to make into PT or something like that.
Maybe a few more seconds of manual editing if you do audio punches. Maybe not a major deal in this context where (I assume) most will be using virtual instruments, maybe not recording or punching a lot of audio tracks.
In the context of what it is at 1.0, crossfades being missing there would get a "meh, not a big deal" from me, mmv. I mean, it doesn't seem to even be for that. Of all the demo vids I've not yet even seen one doing any multitrack recording.

I personally see this even more problematic in clips in the cliplauncher, where you can't really work with two tracks. And I'm aware that it's a high-level complaint, since in Live we can't work with audio at all inside of clips.
But to really use this feature to it's full potential (audio editing inside of clips), overlaps and crossfades are what I'm missing most.
There's a world outside of drum-loops where hard cuts may work ...
