Really? I saw exactly two people comment on passwords in this thread up till your post and one of them was me. And its kind of news to me that i post about access to passwords or facebook on any kind of basis here occasionally, let alone 'every time'.

Would you like to justify that accusation with some references, or just apologise?

I'm going to opt for the third option: None of the above.

Well that says a lot about you, indeed.

So, I'm unsure about the requirement. Are we to give up a password, actually?

It's hard to feature anyone thinking that's reasonable. As it is, all sorts of sites have grabbed the 128kbps versions availed to them via Soundcloud through some mechanism, all of what I do is always available somewhere (and there are fans compiling my work represented by those ripped files and even more degraded), but with my password, you can log in and downlaod the .wav files and distribute them, in direct competition with me who should be able to hold onto at least this?

If this were me promoting this site, this crops up and it isn't actually true, I would want to address it and be completely clear. So I'm suspicious. That doesn't mean I'm giving anyone a bad time, to imply that is obnoxious, I am not seeing people giving this guy a hard time.

As per Facebook, I guard my account there with a convoluted password and a secure https. You can't really rip me off much through that but maybe have easier access to pictures (although the interested party can google me and more or less the same thing comes up. I don't care.), but I don't want some political troll to use me to f**k shit up, and I def. do not want to rebuild the connections. It's far more suitable to me than say KVR as social media for a lot of reasons.

There is a way to log into Soundcloud through the Facebook account, but that seems like a bad idea to me.

I remember the issue talked about regarding Facebook, etc and the sharing of info, and using FB to login to another account/site...the question was posed to Indaba. Seems it's Facebook's requirement. I think there was more but found part of it in a search.

it seems like pretty much any FB app requires you to allow access to your info. maybe some more absolutely than others? I have an add-on to Firefox 'Don't Track Me' so I'm really not that worried, the main thing I don't want is trackers or mystery cookies installed locally. I don't like this allowing the thing to post on your behalf, but my actual experience was most things don't do it; the games and FB's own apps surely will and that's unacceptable, total spam.

So is this thing requiring giving up your actual SC login, or not? Who would find that acceptable?

Post

I thought it just required you to log in to soundcloud to link to it. I don't believe that ToneDen receives your info in the interim.

"Connect" is a function at SoundCloud.
So it seems unlikely that passwords are being shared.
But, here is what it says at SoundCloud about "Connect";
SoundCloud wrote: What does connect mean
With access, the app can upload and download tracks, make comments, favorite tracks, and more. Your email address will be kept private and you can disconnect the app in your SoundCloud account settings at any time.
So, until ToneDen makes it very clear what will/can be done with our accounts on SC, Im not willing to risk say, them using my account to like/comment/repost every track on ToneDen overnight...

The lack of quick clarification strikes me as dubious...
How could they not assume people would be wary of this coming from an unknown entity?

Is any other site you guys know of using the Connect feature at SC?

Remixcomps.com? I had to log in with my Soundcloud account on their site...

It's a bit of a downer indeed that ToneDen seemingly left the thread.
Same at Gearslutz, or so it seems.
ToneDen comeback! Don't be afraid! :clown:

They dont actually require it though. You can sign up without it.
Looks like they only need it if you want to 'automatically' submit remixes while still on their site. Which is unnecessary afaict...

ToneDen-
If you are able, just change your TOS to say that you will never under any circumstances comment/follow/like/repost/etc, etc, etc using our SC accounts, and I think you will get a much more positive response.
But, if the intent actually is to incorporate that kind of activity in order to grow 'The ToneDen Network', then youre just going to piss people off...

Id be all over it if you plainly stated that there would be no fuckery with our stuff outside of ToneDen.io.

Consider the SC 'Connect' terms I quoted above, and ToneDens own terms, and imo theres a lot of room for them to do whatever they want.

Not really, it just says a lot about my priorities. Attempting to appease you or anyone else undeserving of it isn't one of them.
