Sonar.
Hit D, then 6 (or, 7, whatever floats your boat) and go.
MIDI-groove-clips are a welcome addition.

On the SampleTank site (Support -> Tips 'n Tricks), you can find a tutorial : "Creating Beats With Feel". It's written by Squids and describes (+ sound examples) how to play realistic drums from a keyboard. If you've seen the man play :o , then you know what I'm talking about! 8)

Aye FL studio mostly, loads of different samples, shitloads of compression, and most importantly - 15-25% swing! The swings the thing!

Try using the Era step sequencer on any drum machine or synth; ie Battery, DR008, Kontakt, etc.

I lay out almost all my drums with Orion's drum synths, than beef them up if I feel the need with a larger sampled kit in something that handles velocity layers like Battery.

I use Twitch.. not really a surprise now is it? I use lil samples that I make or find and mangle them up with Twitch which it's good at.. Biased.. yes.. anyways grab and try:

mainly...FLS for all of its step-sequencer/drum-machine goodness & DR-008 for the wide variety of modules & kits.

Yeah Fl Studio definitely.
Its lovely to be able to pan individual hits straight away. The randomize function is also probably one of the best out there. Great for really odd glitchy drum tracks.

Have you tried EnergyXT's arp randomize function? Much more control with randomization is available with EnergyXT!

Hmmm...that does look pretty nice. What is the demo limitations of it? I'm quite up for experimenting with things. (I'm trying to get my head around PureData at the moment...ace!).
Also, nice one piranha. It wasn't until I read your post that I realized my proofreading skills are slightly below par.

You can save projects, but you can't open them.

Sorry I think I'm turning this into an EnergyXT thread but wow..just downloaded it. The GUI is probably one of the nicest I've seen on any program yet. Seriously.
It's nice to have something that looks really slick and simple rather than something tryin to emulate some nonexistant piece of hardware.
And its only £27! Unfortunately, the electricity bill comes first.
