Backed it yesterday and it was at $56k. Right now it's at $59k with 4 days to go...I'd say a VST is on the cards :)
I have never participated in such a funding model. When you pay those 25 bucks now, will you get them back if that guy is a criminal and never delivers anything? 8)
You don't. It's a gamble. This one is a sure thing though as the software is 90% finished.

VST with MIDI output is essential for something like this.
so i may not work in Logic AFAIK

:(
Just use it as standalone then. It will appear as a MIDI controller in Logic just like any other MIDI controller.

I was already wondering how the VST would work. I mean, I connect my mic to the DAW, where it obviously goes into an audio track. Then what? How do I get the audio track to control a synth on another track?

There is risk, you are right. Having said that, he would be reputationally ruined, giving him a strong disincentive to not rip people off; also, you would be running the same risk when, for example, paying anyone in advance on KVR's marketplace forum.

I hope this one comes off. It's worth noting that his last project failed despite being over 250% funded. He seems to have set the funding considerably higher for this project - perhaps a lesson learned from the modest amount of funding requested for the last project. Easy to underestimate this stuff I suppose. I've bought beta software before (The Mangle at £20) and been very happy, even if the pace of development has been slow. I'll likely buy this product if it comes to fruition and the promised features in the Prime edition materialise, but the price is a little high for me to take a punt right now.

Post

I'm one of those oldskool peeps who only buy a product if it's 100 % ready. I wouldn't want to make a Kickstart campaign for myself, either. Because I might get ill or whatever, then the project fails and my reputation would be ruined forever...

But the audio-to-MIDI implementation looks promising so far, especially if there will be a VST version! :)

Great Stuff!!!!

For those more interested in Guitar and Bass, I can really recommend checking out Jam Origins Midi Guitar:
http://jamorigin.com/products/midi-guitar/
and Midi Bass beta:
http://jamorigin.com/products/midi-bass/
(if you buy into the beta for midi-bass, you get midi-guitar too for the same price).

I really love these new tools coming out!

Cheers,

Tom

Thomas, have you tried JamOrigin using a vocal input rather than guitar? Being monophonic, I'd imagine it would be easy for something designed to handle poly...

Also, do you know if it can handle a pre-recorded wav file as in inout, rather than a live audio signal?

Sorry, I did write to the dev but have not heard back yet

The plugin doesn't care where the sound comes from, so it makes no difference if you use it with live or recorded audio.

I found it especially cool in this setup:
Image
On an Audio-Track, I first have an Uhbik-Q EQ to get the tone right, then the Midi Bass VST, letting the Audio through and creating Midi and at the end Reaktor Prism FX, that mangles the Bass sound with it's resonators according to the Midi Notes coming in.
That could be interesting to try with the Imitone as well for some crazy vocals ;-)

When I tried the demo of Midi Bass I was pretty amazed with the speed, since normally I'd expect that deep notes are hard to recognize fast, but I found the response very good.
The problems I found were that a.) the low string of my 6 string bass (low "b") wasn't recognized - or was recognized but one octave higher than it is (I asked the developer about it and he said that going that low would introduce more latency, but that maybe there could be a 6 string mode - slower but deeper - not decided yet though)
b.) I often got double notes, since sometimes if you touch the still vibrating string to pluck it again or damp it, this touch creates a note on it's own...
Finetuning I guess.

But that could also be the reason for having a separate tool for voice: it's very different from a rather attack-heavy guitar/bass sound. And the kind of expression control in the cello video would be hard to get with a tool optimized for guitar...

I only mentioned the tools here since some people asked if you could use Imitone for Guitar - I didn't want to highjack the thread and I'm not affiliated with Jam Origin

I'd say give the demo a try if it works for you?

Interesting times :-)

Tuvan throat singing. ;)
Er yes, sorry forgot about that.

Offtopic, but I saw these guys once which do also throat singing, amazing.

He doesn't mention 64 bit vst Windows support though, that's holding me back from spending 25$,
At this point i'm not buying any 32 bit plugins anymore.

I don't like if people are not clearly and direct regarding this point.
just in my inbox from the dev:

"imitone is entering the final stretch of its campaign, and just passed its stretch goal for a VST version for PC and Mac! (This will be available in 64-bit flavors, for those who have been wondering.)"
