Logic and groove templates

Been thinking about new techniques to expand my drum programming with, and I thought of groove templates.

When I program drums, I mostly just record them live on the keys, and edit as needed. As I'm pretty good player I haven't really had problems with grooves. Well, until now that I started thinkin about implementing other peoples grooves as well.

I remember using/importing some templates in logic, but this was long a go. There was probably like two ways of doing it and the ability to make your own, too.

The process was probably slightly awkward as it didn't stick to my toolkit. I'd like to get back to it thought.

Do you use groove templates in logic?

If so, how?

If you want groove templates of other peoples grooves, you could try importing .rex files and use the MIDI part for your template.

I've never tried it though - just thought of it.

Zero-X offer a number of export options for loops etc.

BeatCreator = fantastic :D

Does FL stuff too = very nice

export .mid, rex, zgr etc, as well as slice loops and edit points - worth checking out for sure.

Oh well,

I have used GT's in logic before, as I said, even imported my own.

I just kind of wanted to know if people have found them fast enough to use to suit their workflow.

For me they've always seemed slightly slow to use and they tend to cap workflow as such...

Tha .rex to GT idea sounds good. Gonna try that later.

Never thought of using keyshortcuts for them either. I don't don't think I even can, as my current keyset is almost too full. Can't remember half the customizations as it is.

I should get one of those colored/customized keyboards...

Must admit Kingston, I don't use GT's myself. I always try to get my own feel going.

But yeah, though I've never tried .rex import for GT's, I think I'll give it a go too. Might be interesting.
