This is interesting. I use Sonar and have several Vst3 plugins that seem to work fine. Am I missing something here or does this only show itself in Cubase? All of Hornet plugins have Vst3. It's not a big deal for me...just curious.Compyfox wrote:VST3 version is, as mentioned earlier, postponed until Steinberg fixes a serious issue in Wavelab (the so called, infamous "Audio Forward Bug", GUI recall issues), and Cubase (GUI recall and parameter reset). If the hosts don't work according to their own set specs, it's not the fault of the 3rd party developer.
As long as that isn't fixed, I don't think that current and future TDL plugins will be released in VST3 form. I'll shortly get in touch with Steinberg regarding these issues - since TDL isn't the only company that suffers from this. I'm sure Fabien or Vlad will then inform the masses what the ultimate outcome was and will be.
VOS + TDL + VLADG = SlickEQ

As I'm no Sonar user, I can't comment on this. I can only comment on Steinberg hosts, and here the VST3 versions have issues up and down - from several companies as well (read: TDL is not the only company suffering from this issue). I even beta test for some of these companies - so I know that this issue is existing for quite a while now. Actually since Wavelab 7(!!!), WL6 was still a bit moot in terms of VST3 support.
Sometimes this issue shows, sometimes not. If the developers sticked to the SDK, it can work in an other host that supports VST3, but can ultimately fail in terms of Steinberg hosts. Why that is the case could not be solved so far. I only know that it's happening, and there is no ultimate fix on the 3rd party dev's side (I am in touch with them, and pretty much all of them gave up - now users report similar issues with iZotope Ozone!). The more and more developers go for the most recent VST3.x SDK, and/or update their code, chances are the more issues pop up with this particular bug.
An example would be Slate Digital yet again. Here I know that especially VBC had an issue in early days in Studio One. It was fixed with a maintenance update, but then the Cubase version didn't work anymore. And Slate are also sticking to the VST standard. Klanghelm is another example, and I know for a fact that Tony Frenzel is also trying to work as careful and optimized as possible. Though I also remember his negative critism towards coding "workarounds".
The thing is... developers have to constantly jump hoops to get things working in as many hosts as possible. But if the creators of the VST standard can't even properly use third party VST2/VST3 creations that stick to the SDK's specs... then something is terribly wrong.
I've yet to test HORNET AUDIO plugins in VST3 mode - especially in Wavelab. I only have the AutoGain plugin, and that doesn't make much sense in Wavelab (where the biggest issue is the "Audio Forward Bug", a bug where the rendering results in a bypassed signal - and yes, Wavelab is activated to "run as admin" - else IKM Plugins would only render in demo mode). It does work flawlessly in Cubase however - after a secret maintenance fix as well that happened around the initial release.
I really don't want to cause that much ruckus. But I think, VST3 interested users should know what's up.

Thanks Compyfox. Good info for sure. Here's a nice video and review of the "slick EQ" for those interested.

I think I like this, a lot. Just sweet, lowpass would have been nice though.

My preset for very slight stereo width enhancement:
<TokyoDawnLabs lowBandGainParam="-1.5" lowBandFreqParam="55" lowBandShapeParam="Off" midBandGainParam="1.5" midBandFreqParam="2000" highBandGainParam="1.5" highBandFreqParam="18000" highBandShapeParam="Off" eqModelParam="German" eqSatParam="On" hpFreqParam="36" outSatModelParam="Silky" outSatDriveParam="18.0" outGainParam="0.5" bypassParam="Off" modeParam="Diff" lowBandBypassParam="Off" midBandBypassParam="Off" highBandBypassParam="Off" autoGainParam="On"/>
[Edited with two small tweaks to make it a little more obvious]

WOw just played with it on busy mix mann this made my uad eqs and in some points nebula eqs useless with the the new updates of toneboosters an the heavy stuff coming from Sknote ,Klanghelm,Valhalla and Ik Sontec u can sound just as good as big studios
this eq will be go to for me very easy to use and great results especially in German Mode !

Thanks guys!
@Hermetech Mastering: We're thinking about adding the most interesting user presets as factory presets in a forthcoming update.

I made two little tweaks to my stereo widening preset: put "Calibrate" on 18.0dB and "Out Gain" at +0.5dB. It gives a slightly stronger effect. Have edited original post with these adjustments.

I have made some nice presets that closely emulate the curves of the famous high end of the Siemens W295B. I think it is no accident that the best match was the German curves
I used Tim Petherick's Nebula version to take the measurements. They are copies of the original stepped hardware at +3, +6, +9 and +12 of the high end shelf. His latest version does not have the low end ripples that are shown in the graph, but the high end should be almost identical. VOS + TDL + VLADG are very welcome to use these presets in any updates if they like them.
The amount of distortion is a very rough match to the Siemens, but it is of course not the same thing so you may want to turn it off, and also put the fantastic auto volume match back on. I turned it off to do the matching and left the presets like that.
The curves are a perfect match until they reach about 14k when the original flattens out and SlickEQ continues upwards. I am looking forward to doing a Nebula vs SlickEQ shootout using these presets
I have attached a graph that shows the exact matches of the curves. The faint ones are the originals with the SlickEQ presets on top of them.
