Fyler RapidComposer

Attila,
I am now demoing Bitwig Studio and do not find the problem previously reported. This is strange.

It may have to do with something that crept into my system but now with a restart, the issue has disappeared.

If I get an opportunity I will attempt another test in Live.

Let us say that no news will be good news :) I am hopeful the restart was the issue.

Thanks very much!

Thank you, dsan, for the feedback.
There were really no changes with MIDI device handling on Windows in RapidComposer, so I was wondering what had happened.

Best regards,
Attila

:D You will likely know better than I Attila. You have much more experience trouble shooting. :)

Who knows with technology? I find it is great stuff....When it works :)

Thanks very much for your concerns. I hope I did not trouble you much with this!

Best regards and

When Dragging and dropping from VST in windows 64 bit to Studio One it shows the MIDI Clip on the track then disappears when I let it go. Its very Frustrating.

Thank you Stephan, I'll check and fix this shortly.

See that strange behavior with the joined notes in the parameters of the track.

I can't understand what's happening...

There are two ways to achieve good voice leading between chords:
- either by transposing phrases (the phrase magnet is useful for doing this automatically)
- or by inverting chords on the master track (chord magnet on the master track can do this automatically)

I recreated the composition by setting an inversion for the IV chord manually:

0;0;-1 will move the top chord note one octave down.
When you do this, it will work as you expect.

Thanks,
Attila

Hmmm... Yes... But after that, if you try to move up/down this phrase with the mouse you can see immediately that there is an inconsistency, since the only beats that will move under the mouse are [5-6-7-8]. The beat [4] should move too since it now belongs to the phrase.

And we can see it even in the picture above:
  1. The color indicating the selected phrase remains beginning at 5 (it should now be 4)
  2. The symbol Magnet remains just above 5 (it should be now above 4)

Hi BlackWinny,
if i didn't miss something...
in my humble opinion,
using one Chord Generator with Repeat mode is the best way in this case.

No, beat[4] still belongs to the previous phrase.
If you move chords on the master track, the phrases do not change, they are just adapting to the new harmony, but phrase positions and lengths do not change.
You can do what yellukhan suggested.

I've stolen one of your smileys:

I thought it did. I was doing a confusion between the length of the phrase and the length of the chord when seeing the "size length" in... the chord inspector. My bad...

So I'll do as suggested by yellukhan.

You can!
I have hundreds from this amazing collection! They are so beautiful and so sweet in this very original and so enjoyable style... And absolutely none in this immense collection is aggressive or shocking.

BlackWinny wrote:About the "Join notes" problem related above, I confirm that it totally changes the audio result (just tried again minutes ago with the up-to-date 256b18).

I let an example in attachment.
You are right, BlackWinny, this problem was more serious than I expected. It affected UI rendering and playback, but now it is fixed.
A new update will be publicly released probably tomorrow.

Thank you!

This issue is fixed now in the next update (probably tomorrow). Thank you for reporting it.

Hi Attila,
I just updated to RapidComposer 2.6 and have encountered a real show-stopper:
I can no longer drag and drop phrases (and progressions) from the phrase browser into the composition. I can see the small "icon" representing the phrase (or progression) when I start dragging, but when I drop it, nothing happens, the "icon" simply disappears. Just reinstalled 2.55 in parallel to doubel-check, there it works as expected.

@ all: anyone else having these issues? Cannot only be on my machine, can it? I am on Win7 64-bit, using RapidComposer in 64-bit as well.

I also tried to sync Ableton Live via the new Send MIDI Start/Stop/Continue and Send MIDI Clock. Basically it works (the start, stop and continue), but the tempo in Live is not correct, it is always approx. 10% slower than RapidComposer's tempo.

Attila, hope you can find solutions for these issues.

Greets, Max

Edit: oh, I just saw that the D&D issue is already solved. Attila, you are fixing the bugs faster than we can find them
Hope you can fix the sync issue also

2nd Edit: Tried the Send MIDI with RC2.61, now Live is runnning approx. 15% faster. Very strange!

Max....I think, cannot say with certainty, this is an issue with Live. I too experienced a latency between RC (on one computer) and Live (on another).

I thought it was just that - latency - due to the LAN and having to send receive, etc.

I am not having this issue with Bitwig Studio. Timing seems to be spot on. You may want to dl a demo of BWS to check this out.

This is why I think the issue is Live. I'm not an expert on the subject of PDC but that is what comes to mind and Live does not have a good reputation in this department.

Just FWIW.

Happy Musiking!
