Hi all,

recently, I've sold three NI plugins here on KVR marketplace. My first plugins sale. Except for NI's slower reaction, everything went well and all of the plugins are now happily registered to buyer's accounts.

What surprised me is the behaviour of PayPal in this matter. Two days after the sale, e-mail arrived stating that my account has been limited and it will stay that way until I explain to them nature and origin of those transactions.

Now, I'm sorry, but I have the account for years. Mainly for software buys. Not a single question from them as long as I send the money. (which they recieve fee from) But first time I actually recieve some money and interrogation begins?

Is that normal? If so, is it just one time check or they keep doing this all the time?

no, it sounds unusual. did the email actually cite these specific transactions?

Yes, it did. All three of them.

EDIT: Ok, just about a minute ago, they accepted my explanation and returned the account to regular state. Wierd though, anyway.

I get emails like that from time to time. They get junked. I don't believe they originate from PayPal and have never had a problem after simply deleting what I assume are fishing stroke scam emails.

I would suggest that it's not safe to reply directly to these emails.

If there is an issue with your account, PayPal will let you know from within your secure account.

I got this message. I've only sold maybe 3 items on the marketplace. They limited my account and froze the funds I still had in my account from the sale. I called them directly to check if it was legit and it was (not saying yours is). I had to provide copies of all conversations I had with people on the forums regarding the sale and I also provided a copy of the email from Native Instruments giving me permission to make the sale. After a couple of days my account was back online.

The most ridiculous thing was that I asked them what exactly I had done wrong. They told me that they could not tell me, to which I replied that I'd like to know so that I don't do it again. They replied that if they told me what I did wrong, I may find a way around it.

I would call Paypal direct to see if it's legit.

Never had this with paypal so cant comment. I know there's been an increase in EU with VAT transaction tracing if the transactions are cross borders or in/out from EU etc.

Will pop in with one point re scam mails etc.

I always use outlook for retrieveing emails, reson for this isthe preview window will always show the web address for the link. This in turn, generally, reveals if the link is genuine or not. Within your browser it's not so obvious.

Just a hint for anyone interested.

@ FarleyCZ: They have different fees for private persons, and persons doing a commerce. They probably suspect you operating a commerce now, so i would just tell them that these are private transactions, and have nothing to do with running a business. Heard of stuff like this before, but i wouldn't have thought it happens with so few transactions. Actually, i probably have a lot more of these than you, and i never got such a mail.

Oh, and +1 @ checking if these mails are valid first.

They were real. It didnt include any kind of link that could redirect me to fake site. (Seen a fwe like that, mostly trying to get my Steam account.) When I reached my account as usual, it was confirming the limitation.

...yeah I think that might have been something about VAT. I'm in Czech Republic, in the middle of Europe and buyer was from Canada. Too much borders and oceans in between...

I've had some unpleasant dealings with them over the last couple of months. It's like things you tell them pass through one ear and out the other without the brain noticing (if there is a brain...?). Because I have given them information, and then I get feedback they will assess it, and then a couple of days later I get feedback I have to resubmit the same information

In the end I called them and that seemed to get "the brain" working.

They try to avoid criticism about this stating that they are a bank, and thus need the info. But if paypal is a bank, then where the heck is the interest on my money going?

They are absolutely not a bank, and have been sued/fined for acting as one before. Personally I'd like to see a Paypal alternative, you know 10 years or so later.

I've accrued interest on my account recently. Through having a debit card from them. So that's kind of being a bank.

I would like to see an alternative, I don't like paypal much.
