I like Adventus' sound, but I removed it because of some odd behavior. For instance when recording a few chords, there would be up to half a dozen continuous notes that I never played :o

"On the XHun Audio site it says: Two aliasing-free Analog Modeled Oscillators featuring Continuous Wave Selection mode between Triangle, Saw, Square, Pulse"

Does SE really offer that? Maybe they are using some custom modules...

"Analog Modelling" can be as simple as SAW + HP filter. It's up to the plug-in designer to add that label or not...be it SE or not...

A SE user can easily tell that for you, just look at the "dump file" - that contains all the unpacked modules - every c++ coder has a prefix -> CK, DD, KDL, TD, DH etc.

I was referring to "aliasing free" and "continuous wave selection". I have tried many SE synths, but not a single one with those features if I remember correctly.

Dump file? SE plugins automatically create a SE folder which those modules, which have the same programmer codes. I demoed that specific plugin months ago, but didn't like it much.

*Cough* "Dump file" was not the best word choice. The native SE Oscillator is "alias-free" - multi-tabled 1x table every 4th note if I remember correctly, very well coded. Getting "continuous wave selection" wouldn't be very hard for an experienced/dedicated SE user....

P.S. It is *rumoured* that the custom modules in Elektrostudio's stuff are actually just GUI modules, not oscs/filters/etc. And the first Sylenth1 was SE too.

What is that low-frequency grinding noise that one often hears when playing chords on, say, the fifth octave or higher? I hate that sound, but maybe it is not aliasing, but something else...

I`m familiar with only a handful of synths mentioned. Liking SE and those i`ve used, looking forward to trying the others. :)

The SE design I grab very often is Synthepolis NRG_A 1.2 (no longer available(sold))

Who knows, everyone add their own spice, their are literally 1000's of options. As far as the Native SE oscillator goes - just checked it - at 8.11 Octaves - noise floor is at -130dB.

Never heard of that one, but it looks very complete :) Pity it is no longer available...

2 things which make it into almost everything I do musically are:
Electrostudio Model Pro, or Model Mini;
ArdDev ET 201 / 301.
Those were made w/ SynthEdit.

If Tarkus, by Superwave, would play nice w/ my (admittedly shitty) computer, I would be using that quite a bit, I think.

Also Odo made one which is called *********bytes (can't remember the number.... but it's some significant thing for chiptune people, no doubt) and that one gets sampled and mangled a lot here.

OH, also Drumatic 3, of course. I use the shit out of that. I should buy E-Phonic's latest, really, but I find I just use the presets and then kill it with FX anyway...

They're asking for synths made with Synthedit! :!:

It's worth noting that what the synth really does (or did when I tested it about a year ago) is crossfade between the waveshapes - there's no continuous morphing even between the square and pulse wave, so PWM is the equivalent of a square being faded into a narrow pulse and back again.

Synthedit poses a few problems. It can make the plugin less CPU efficient, it doesn't work on Macs, and it can encourage mediocrity. On the other hand, none of these problems are deal breakers (unless, I suppose, you're on a Mac :hihi: ), and as well as encouraging scores of copycat cookie cutter "hello world" synths, it's also responsible for getting a lot of people into synth design who then progress to do great things... And there are dozens of SE synths and plugins that I use regularly because they're simply brilliantly done and the tiny CPU increase caused by a slight lack of optimisation isn't worth worrying about with a modern computer.

It's also worth noting that SE users can create their own code and import it as a module, and just use SE as a way to organize and present their ideas, which will be as varied as people themselves.

My two favourites are De La Mancha's Dirty Harry (synth) and Sonic Projects Sonitex (a lo-fi effect and still one of the best!).
