Hi,

look at the rgcaudio-forum and there at the I think sfz-thread. Around there is a list of hundreds of soundfonts (and from rgcaudio is the free sf2-player SFZ and a not-free-but-wonderful sfz+).
If you need a really good piano-sf2, for example (and do have hi-speed-internet :D ) check google for SPLENDID piano. Comes in 72MB and 136MB when unzipped and sounds great. (If you have the possibility for playing *.gig-files you should too look at MAESTRO piano, but that is around 900MB  if I remember well...er).
www.sf2midi.com is a fine website, not any sf2 is super-professional there, but worth a look.

And under http://www.synthfont.com/ you find many good links. You surely know "Hammersound", I think it's www.hammersound.net but am not sure, and all those informations and many more you can find at KVR-->rgcaudio-Forum.

These are my essential soundfont banks (most are available at SF2Midi):

All of the +Combo banks (+Hip Hop Combo, +Pop Combo, +Techno Combo, etc)
All the Maestro banks
Fluid GM bank
Cadenza Strings
Marcato Strings
K4 Analog Synth banks 1 and 2
LK Godin Guitars
Chet Atkins Clean Guitar
Guitar Classical
NS Kit 7
NS J Bass

When searching SF2Midi ignore the user rankings for anything less than 1 meg, some of these rankings are based on how they sound on an AWE32 soundcard (from 1997).
And all life's fears
Can invade my ears
I can handle it

Hi there!
Here's a link for a huge free SF2 store:
ftp://ftp.lysator.liu.se/pub/awe32/soundfonts/
Hope you can use ftp and hope the guy, God bless him, still keeps his site up.
Somehow I personally tend to use good syth patches after some time of playing with SF2's
