Steve Duda once said, the average listener thinks there are two parts to a song. The vocals, and everything else.

The average listener doesn't give a crap about your Moog bass, or if it came out of a freeware vst. All they care about is if it's danceable and if the lyrics sound good.

I notice a difference between analog and VST, but today's software is getting close enough where I can't always tell.

Maybe because they come close, but not close enough?
A lot of old analog bass was intended to emulate a bass guitar. Maybe we don't know or don't mind about because the emulation is really bad.

Lyrics really don't matter nearly as much as the music, but Umbrella isn't a good example of terrible lyrics...

Goodness me there's a million lyrics out there worse than those.

Oh, and the track has a garageband drum loop (ask a clubber if they care about that as well). But a cracking tune and a fine pop song - the Manic Street Preachers did a great version of it too, btw.

I have no idea what analog sounds like, I started on software. I had 2 hardware units before-Red Sound Darkstar and Roland SH-32, don't miss them as it's cramped enough.

Does the average listener really care if its analog?
