I like experimental stuff, and 3x multiplying ring modulation. Not sure why every mainstream synth only does 2x, but oh well.

Synthedit poses a few problems. It can make the plugin less CPU efficient, it doesn't work on Macs, and it can encourage mediocrity. On the other hand, none of these problems are deal breakers (unless, I suppose, you're on a Mac), and as well as encouraging scores of copycat cookie cutter "hello world" synths, it's also responsible for getting a lot of people into synth design who then progress to do great things... And there are dozens of SE synths and plugins that I use regularly because they're simply brilliantly done and the tiny CPU increase caused by a slight lack of optimisation isn't worth worrying about with a modern computer.
It's also worth noting that SE users can create their own code and import it as a module, and just use SE as a way to organize and present their ideas, which will be as varied as people themselves.
My two favourites are De La Mancha's Dirty Harry (synth) and Sonic Projects Sonitex (a lo-fi effect and still one of the best!).
To me CPU usage is actually one of the reasons why I do use SE synths. Maybe they were hogs 5 years ago, but since nothing has changed about most SE modules in years while computers and proprietary plugins have become ever more powerful, SE synths seem rather efficient today
My biggest gripe are typical SE user interfaces.

I like the numerous choices offered by independent developers whether SE or not.
I think the spirit and amount of innovation and experimentation that SE and similar tools offered gave us undreamed of potential all at our fingertips at very affordable prices or out of shear generousity.
I plan additional purchases and downloads based on the recommendations here.

Has the long wait for the 64-bit version lead to a certain decline in the number of new SE plugins?
If I am not mistaken I see more and more Synthmaker/Flowstone plugins recently.

That's true but unfortunately I haven't found something revolutionary made with Synthmaker for a long time...the last extraordinary Synthmaker synth was Kairatune if I remember right...fluffy_little_something wrote:Has the long wait for the 64-bit version lead to a certain decline in the number of new SE plugins?

EDIT: Entrancer is a great Synthmaker synth, too...

Back to Synthedit, my favorites would probably be from HGFortune, Homegrown Sounds, M-RGT, B. Serrano, DeLaMancha, UgoSynths and Odo (especially Double Six XL & DRFusion)...
And that's a Synthedit GUI I fell in love with:

No, you must be thinking of a different synth.Tricky-Loops wrote:The last extraordinary Synthmaker synth was Kairatune if I remember right.
Kairatune is not SynthMaker, (nor SynthEdit), its entirely self-coded, IIRC in C++.

It cost €80, a bit overpriced.fluffy_little_something wrote:
