I think this tenedency to ask these kind of questions is just a bit counterproductive. Sound design is about skills, right? That said, I do realize that certain plugs will certainly make it easier for us to achieve certain sounds but asking "which plug for trance leads?" just isnt very fun! Not to mention that efx, eq, and compression also come heavily into play.

Lets talk a little more about sound design in general and rephrase questions to be something like, "how does so-and-so create this sound on this track?" Maybe we can post links to an MP3 also.

I think this is a great idea.
But I'm sure we won't see an end to this timeless question...

I don't really see the harm in them. If you look over most of such threads the inevitable answer is "you can make this sound with almost any synth, now _here_ is how you go about programming it and adding effects." Then it's followed by an abstract discussion on programming. It's natural for newbies to think that there is one particular synth for playing a particular style of music but you don't have to have a 303 to make acid.

That's right, you need a Virus.

I understand what you are saying and i think people should consider it, but in my case (i'm the one who made the post about a VST for trance leads), I was really wondering about more soft-synths like the VST's i was using at the time for leads, and i think thats what everyone means when they ask similar questions.
