Hey guys,
So basically I have a whole week off and want to use that week to do something productive like learn some basics on electronic music production. Any tips on where to begin or what tutorials I should start watching? I purchased an MPK25 and Ableton Live but would like some guidance on how to make the most out of my week off. Some artists I listen to include Kill Paris, Flume, Just A Gent, Odesza, Dillon Francis, Cashmere Cat.
Thanks in advance!

Since you already made some purchases, try Live manual and buil-in lessons. They will teach you how to make some noise to begin with.
Then, go and try some free synths. Learn what ADSR and filter are.
I recommend getting a book about synth programming and music theory that suits your needs.
That's of course much more than you could do in a week. Learning how to actually produce electronic usic takes years, but here on KVR you're on a good way

Hey you might be in on a fun ride. I have lots of great tips for you. ANd totally, if you want to we can connect through an internent connecetion program and show you. My name is Anthony Lowery. IM into all sorts of EDM and know the basics of most of them I think, or somehwhat. I also know lots of tricks.
I have a dvd I can sell or give to you, that I haven't really watched, but it is good and really quick to watch and explains a lot. It CSI master for ableotn live 6. I watched part of it, but not really, I just checked it out. I bouht it many years ago and it has just sat still lying to be uncovered one day.
What I would suspect is how I learned, Through youtube. You can look up something like how to sidechain a lead pump. Something diffeicult other than that would be A multiband dynamics compressor. Basically on that, thwe way to learn is where you make the lines go with you drag and drop is up or down. so on the sound in that area your turing up or down. Thanks to Chris that's an easy way to explain it.
COMpressors compress sound. and a multiband dynamic compresso is a complex way of doing that. Reverb, is reverberation and you grandma or dad probably know more about it than you do. It looks complex but on ableton live you can mess with the decay time, that's the main thing.
Delay will thicken up your track on low amounts too and especially for that cool rough smooth vocal sound like sslim shady.
A tube will make you sound more tubish like a art mkii compressor. Add a compressor in different modes to choose from.
Chorus mentions delay. Hence yes its a type of delay, in small amounts. But- it moves around.
Overdrive is fun for drums and so is saturation. mess with input.
Albleotn live had some awesome tutorials and so does Dubspot.com but you may need to search seperatley than the sites. You need topics to search on.
Theres not really that wrong of a Tempo or "BPM" to run with. Electro is in the 120s. House in the 130s and trance is the 140s. more or less. hip hop is also lower like the 90s. and rap im guessing the 100s.
STart with the sessions view in ableton live. ONce you have something loaded up and click the rectangle you can press pay and start making midi notes, with the little eye tunred on red down at the bottom middle of the screen. By the meters.
then the arrangement view is for when you press the btton that looks like a circle and turns red too. the arrangement vie is th epage you start off on. LOOk the rught of the screen to the two circles and chooe the bottom one to viw the session view.
Tip: keep the TIPS on.
Trainagles open and close things.

Hes right, you need to learn that ADSR is attack decay sustain and release, its like if you talk or sing, or rap. just an analogy there. just similar in a way, it has nothing to do with singing really. its just if the synth makes a quick sound or a short or long sound.
My faves synth to learn on is th eone and only SYLENTH!. super fun to work with and easy. sounds great like a Virus. its in the 200 dollar range.

I would definitely recommend just trying to play some tunes yourself - starting learning your way around a keyboard and just playing and figuring some things out. Too many people make the mistake of thinking that they can do everything with programming, which severely limits you.
