Maximalism that you don't really notice/isnt shoved in your face is a great thing to go for imo. Like the idea of complex club music...or a lot of latin music, for example. Really intricate harmonies and rhythms sometimes, yet so smooth.

Seriously, why shouldn't the women choose a composer who is more capable than others? If you gave me 10 tracks and asked me which female composer I'd like to have an affair with, of course I might choose the complexest ones, just to impress the scientists. But when they're gone, I'll listen to some club music instead of piano compositions...

It's understandable from a purely evolutionist, materialist perspective, heh.
Evolution is sound concept but not the only sensible one to frame reality with.

The intent is to try to understand human behavior, not "reduce it to sex only". Fact is, animals that reproduce sexually tend to put a LOT of importance into sex! Whether or not it is conscious, it's there. We're biological entities and therefore behave as such, regardless of how much our attitudes are manipulated by sex-fearing authorities when we're growing up.

i've observed interesting behavioral differences in my partners when they're ovulating, so this article is amusing to me (especially since i'm a musician, my latest partners have made positive commentary about my music, and they have/had partners who were/are musicians; one of them would like to create music herself, but she's focused on a different business at the moment).

It's all interesting and fun to think about. There may be some actual scientific fact in there somewhere, but further studies would have to be done to confirm or disprove the observations of this study. Studies like this are often self-admitted to be limited. We often don't get those disclaimers and safety statements in the media presentation of a cool/hot/scary/sexy/controversial study.

I'm still believing there must be something deeper in music than sexuality. Just because birds are singing to find a partner, doesn't mean that musicians are only making music to find a sex partner, too.

The correct way to pose the question in that regard is "what is the point of music pertaining to the theory of evolution". The sad part is, to some minds that can be abbreviated to "what is the point of music", because everything else is seen as pointless and random.
It's true that evolution profoundly shaped and shapes our experience here, but the pure functions of evolution could be carried out by spiritless automatons. Consciousness remains a mystery, and the specific qualities of things it can experience on this planet aren't really covered by any hard science, nor will they ever be probably.

Shamans made music to get in contact with ghosts and gods, not to get more sex. Music has a spiritual quality, too.

Birds and humans cannot be compared. And from my experience even birds are also "singing" because they talk with each other, not only to get the best mating partner.
