Hello,

Looking for wireless headphones for a 90 year old friend that is nearly blind and has hearing problems.

Specifications:
Headphones for watching TV
RF wireless
Auto-tune. Need not be tuned or press one button to tune.
Auto on and off. They turn off when not on head and on when on head or similar.
Mini or two RCA
50 foot range should be adequate
Easy to charge the battery by laying headphones on the transmitter. Need not to plug in to charge the batteries.
Standard (not proprietary batteries) chargeable batteries.
Would be great if it would also work with non-chargeable batteries.
Under $125 and preferably available at Wal-Mart, Target, Best Buy, Tiger Direct ... Not mail-order.
Best if store has a liberal return policy.

Please be specific by Brand and model number. I already did Google search but could not find wireless headphones that had all the features as described in the specifications above.

I have a pair of AKGs that I think meet all your criteria. But they don't make them anymore.

The main thing is to avoid Bluetooth and find ones that use their own high-powered transceiver. Otherwise they will work only at close distance and intermittently. I have tried numerous ones.

I know the Sennheisers are really good, but in the US, they can only sell ones that are lower-powered due to FCC regs. Overseas, you can buy ones that are higher-powered, but keep in mind they may interfere with other wireless devices such as phones, Wi-Fi, etc. If there's a dual-n Wifi device in the house, you'll have trouble with phones, wireless headphones, Sonos systems, etc., because dual-n uses so much available bandwidth.

Hi Gonga, I have relatively cheap Bluetooth Sennheisers (MM100's) and they're incredibly reliable. The difference must indeed be due to the US regs as you mention, which is rather interesting...

EDIT: forgot to comment about the range. I've tried mine up to a distance of about 20metres with no issue whatsoever.

Can the OP potentially get some non-US specced ones perhaps?

Hi Mushy, yeah, I have both older Bluetooth portables and higher-powered Senns with the base, and the Blutooth ones are relatively unreliable. The sound is always cutting out. I'm in the U.S, but I'm not sure the FCC regs (or Ofcom in the UK) apply to Bluetooth...don't know!

My 90 year old friend is not an audiophile and not a techy.

Prefer to avoid mail-order but may have to resort to it if I do not find the headphones in a local store around Clearwater Florida.

I added a few notes to the specifications for the sake of clarity.
