Hello folks,

I am soon to be getting a new computer.
It is coming with an SB Audigy 2 ZS already installed.
Now, is this use usable for recording into and monitoring with? If you think not, how come?

well, it's is fantastic for DVD, mp3,and EAX games!!
you can record decent audio but sample rate will only lock at 48khz/16bit
the standard for many sampled insturments to right is at 44khz... so....

anyhow, the ASIO is rocksolid if your system isn'too slow! ASIO 7ms no pop and clicks with my XP3200

all in all, if you are not serious with making music
it's cool!
but if your are serious, GET EMU 1212m!! the best cheap recording system you can get!

if i remember correctly, that card supports 24bit recording right? i'll have to double-check, just talking out of my ass right now. I'd try it out first though before buying another one. if you like and it works for you, save your money. it should be suitable to recording and monitoring with though.

From my understanding, the 16bit / 48kHz limitation is a ASIO driver issue, not a hardware issue - so if the xK project would get there hands on a Audigy 2 ZS card, they could hopefully make it work with 24bit/96kHz.

Never let someone suck you intot the void of 'if you're serious about making music, buy product 'x''. Yes, the SB is on the low end of the totem pole. It's cheap. There are sound cards out there that will cost you a couple of grand if you want DSP horsepower for example. It depends on your needs. The AudioPhile 24/96 from what I've heard repeatedly is a nice step up from the Blaster, and costs $149. The EMu cards seem nice, but don't know enough about them yet.

I upgraded from Audigy to Audiophile 2496. You can get them pretty cheap and they are very good. But there are many other great value cards available - and if it sounds good to you, what else matters?
