Right now I'm using a Laptop to create my music and I am looking into purchasing a keyboard, the 3 I am looking at the most are the Edirol PCR-1 PCR-30 and the PCR-50.

I was wondering if anyone uses any of these and could recommed one. I see certain advantages to each. I was also wondering about the ASIO 2.0 USB drivers that are offered only on the PCR-1 and wonder if that should help steer my decision, or are the other two models equipped with ASIO drivers as well?...I saw no mention of drivers for the 30 and 50 models.

I'm looking for honest opinions of owners of any of these keyboards.

You don't need ASIO drivers for a midi controller, ASIO drivers are for audio, so unless you need extra audio features you probably don't need the PCR-1, but if you're using you laptop soundcard you might want to consider it I guess. I have a PCR-30, the build quality is alot better than the M-audio or Evolution controllers I tried, much better keyboard action and velocity sensitivity, knobs and faders are solid. Recommended. The PCR-50 is basically the same except for more keys and controls, so if you need the extra octaves and controls that's up to you.

Thanks etherdesign,

I am using my laptop audio card, which makes lean towards that PCR-1 a little more along with the fact that it is easily portable for when I'm collaberating with Mighty_Hero, but I'm not sure that I like that fact that it's only 25 Keys.

I got a PCR-30 about a month ago or so and it's the bee's knees. I've never used a midi controller before, so it took me some time to get my head wrapped around how to set the thing up for Reason and Live and whatnot, but now that I understand it, it's great. I gig with it pretty regularly and it's VERY solid and stable.

Thanks for you opinions gmstudio and etherdesign, I I've decided on the PCR-30 myself. I wanted more than 25 Keys but still be easily portable.

I just had my own PCR-30 delivered last night and all the reviews are true: it's much better in every way than the other controllers in its class!

I'm using it in front of the PC, as my master controller is a bit too far away to use both at once. Now I can plop the Edirol on my lap for quick entry, patch auditioning, CC tweaking and whatnot. The one-cord/USB-power thing makes it a simple affair.

Also tried it on my wife's notebook (HP): 5ms latency with vanilla integrated SoundMAX DirectX drivers under Reason!

Now I have a studio to take on holiday with me!
