how the hell does one discover new music when both spotify and last fm always lists the same artists. lets say i do a search for an artist i like, it shows me 20 similar artists, (more often then not they are like night and day) the same recycled regurgitated bands are shown which i have played to death.

now i want to find more similar artists, go deeper, oh wait, 20 more artist mostly the same with a couple new bands that are unrelated. so the question is, there must be a better way!

The "Related Artist" feature in Spotify is ridiculous...

My tip: Try Google (and Youtube and Soundcloud), refine your search criteria gradually and you'll find hundreds of related artists. Then you can search your new discovered artists directly in Spotify and Last.fm.

That's what I do, and I have found musicians and bands whom I've never heard of before.

So are the "recommendations' - at the very least they should allow the software to learn what you like by having a "I hate and despise this artist intensely" button

That's the kind of feedback that would be good to post on their forum. It would be a feature request there, whereas this is only a rant here.

according to spotify and last fm, there are only 20 related artists of a genre.
