I am looking for a cheap or FREE DAW that I can use to record MIDI Instruments & Vocals. I also want to know some websites that have TONS of FREE Loops, Samples, and Soundfonts to download.
Thanks,

Mixcraft 6 (Standard version). If you're a student, contact them and find out about edu discount.

Mulab free 4 track limit , Podium free 1 core CPU usage , Kristal , MCcaw , Tracktion 5 $59 ( my favorite ) , and Reaper $60 . Check the KVR samples forum , check the KVR instruments , and also effects forums , You will probably want a 32bit free host if you are doing all free plugins and samples and such . Also Google helps .

+ 1 for Tracktion, very good and cheap!
Zynewave Podium Free - Nice!
Free loops and samples, lots of websites for this, the internet is a veritable smörgåsbord of freebies!

I recently switched from Cubase to Podium Free and I'm extremely happy with it!
The commercial version isn't exactly expensive either!
There are a lot of sites which offer free samples out there, way too many to list them here. Bedroom Producers Blog is a good starting point with links to all kinds of free samples, plugins etc.
Cheers

Might be not the most intuitive but has many features - LMMS Studio:
http://lmms.sourceforge.net
If you need free samples, look at Musicradar. You can fill up your whole hard disc with them, if you really want to...

Someone is selling Presonus Studio One Producer V2 for $99 OBO in the marketplace. That's a ridiculously good deal for one of the best DAW's you can get.

LMMS for sure. I regularly use Mulab but after LMMS 1.0.0 update it's a much beastier program.Tricky-Loops wrote:Might be not the most intuitive but has many features - LMMS Studio:

Things can be little complicated. But if you get products from Steinberg, Yamaha or Roland such as audio interface, midi controller etc which believed those items are essential for any DAW user. You will get a free copy of either cubase or sonar. Both are good and your choice to upgrade them whenever you want.
My 2 cents

Where's the Like button? This is a good tip. Likewise, Presonus interfaces come with Studio One Artist.phreaque wrote:Things can be little complicated. Yep! That's a good suggestion!
Some MIDI controllers also come with a cut down version of Ableton Live and/or maybe some other hosts iirc.
Cheers

FL will be cheap in the long run, with other programs you may add up upgrade costs. and it's does everything + plus comes bundled with a lot of feature, try demos for all products, whichever you click with the most is the one!
