He switched to Les Pauls as soon as he cared more about sound than image. I'm guessing he played Les Paul's on "Electric" and only had the Gretsch for show.werp wrote:Billy Duffy and his White Falcon.
Mind you, I love the sound of Gretsch's, that just doesn't fit what he was going for after those first two albums.
edit - Man, listening to Wild Flower right now, it's so good. This mix would never pass in today's world, every lyric would be clear and upfront (unnecessarily so, I'd say) and the hihats and guitars would all be time corrected. The kick is surprisingly massive, though, which I guess might have something to do with Rick Rubin's hip hop background.

Maybe if he had a signature Gretch model it would be the Country Gentleman that he used in the early Beatles days though. If I remember right the only reason he bought one was because Carl Perkins owned one...Uncle E wrote:The one that always pops in my mind was George Harrison's Gretsch:

Cool to hear how little gain Malcolm and Angus are using here. Sounds excellent:

well that kicks shell. i'd just have to add a little something to make it ninja turtles...like a belt with an upper-case "D" on it. i'm gonna shred on the remains of Donatello!Hink wrote:real tortoise shellnasenmann wrote:The great thing about tony iommi signature SG - no higher price for lefty version![]()
Might get one at some point in my life.
On fictional character signatures, i want a ninja turtles guitar. Ideally it would be round and oval, with the shell pattern on its backside.

you know there is one signature guitar I would love to have but not at the price they go for...Dean's Uli Jon Roth Sky Guitar...six octave range
...but seeing how there is only 50 of the six string and 50 of the 7 string I dont see it happening

S'Cool Tripper. I realise I just quoted you in a big block but you know, it's late, and we are being forgiving so...Uncle E wrote:Just so I have this straight, you started this thread and then petered out half way through it? Why didn't you just make this your Top 4?codec_spurt wrote:5: Fender Telecaster. Merle Haggard. f**k, I'm clutching at straws here. Help a brother out.

My brain is blanked.
What is the fifth one?
Er, I thought that in the morning when I woke up in a cold sweat.
Just four would have done I said to myself. Then, 'what have I done?'.
Here's my Top 5 reasons for why this thread sucks:
1. No Yngwie Malmsteen strat, which is an amazing instrument and one of the most innovative guitars Fender ever made. I'm not even a shredder yet can completely appreciate what an advancement this thing is.
==============
No scallops for me
==============
2. No hollow bodies in the 5 best guitars list. You can't catch cat scratch fever without a hollow body.
============
I did mention the 335 did I not, that's got holes in it
=============
3. "codec_spurt" sounds like your DAW is wanking one off and shooting a load of audio formats.
=========
Not sure what you are talking about there, but it sounds pretty serious. Will check out. Thanks for the warning!
=========
4. Bruce Springsteen is an overrated hack that makes middle aged women feel like they're reliving their slut years.
===========
Funny you should say that! I'm just going to change my sig.
==============
5. hmm...uh...I don't know...help a brother out...what's the fifth reason this thread sucks?
======
Who needs a reason? It's KVR. The wild west of.. er.. something.

So they got their guitars back. That was a mad story. Some c**t stole a whole truck load of their stuff. They offered major reward. No luck.
Years later, some spotty kid comes up to them at a gig and says, yeah it was my uncle that stole your guitars.
They got most of their cherished posessions back. That they never thought they would see again.
I've got a few stolen guitars. Stolen from me. I still wake up in the middle of the night and cry out. Like a cat in heat. With fever. Guitars stolen by friends. Makes it worse.
Just glad they got them back. I love Sonic Youth more than anything in this world and Lee Ranaldo is a f**king genius with his different temperaments.

No they don't. As you know.vurt wrote:robojam wrote:whyterabbyt wrote:Ive only ever known one person own a replica, and it was a Francis Rossi Tele.
I had to laugh at that - doesn't he just use an off the shelf Tele? I never understood that price hike based on simply putting someone's name on the headstock but doing no other customization.
coke habits dont pay for themselves?
But knobbing everyone else's guitars and flogging them for a fiver to crackheads who will sell them on, has it's benefits.
Not that I would know anything about that. Let alone condone it. Or even endorse it.
People that nick other people guitars should be burned at the stake. In a pile of walnut and birds eye maple and sitka spruce and ash and cardboard!
