Clicks, Pops, and Glitches

I'm using a layla24 on a g4 laptop. My CPU is only peaking around 40 or 50%, and yet I get a ton of clicks and pops... and glitches when recording. The audio will actually jump some when I'm recording... making a big glitchy click! The glitches sometimes seem to make it onto the final recording. I hadn't had this problem when using Cubase with Layla in the past, and I don't have it when using the built in soundcard to the degree that I do when using the Layla (although it does still glitch here and there on playback with the built-in). Is this just super flakey Layla drivers? I have tried positioning the latency every which way, and the glitches actually get worse with higher latency levels. I have also tried adjusting the RAM cache with no success. My system is totally smooth otherwise. What can I do to stop this persistent and annoying problem?

I had a similar problem when I was using Cubase on an AMD1800 machine I used to have. Turned out that the graphics adapter was hogging all the resorces. I just had to tweak a few of the settings for the graphics adapter and the problem went away...
I don't know if this will help you on your G4, but it came to mind when I read your post, so I thought I'd put it out there in hopes that it might head you in the right direction..
Good luck...

I'm gonna loose it! Anyone have a Layla and can tell me their settings that work? I can't get this working at all.. glitches all night. Actually, glitches for the past few months.
