DUNE 2 just released days ago. It comes with very good 350 patches. But, there is a fine patch pack by Rob Lee (awesome sound designer).

Why is dune 2 better than sylenth?
I've been creating many sounds for synth1, still love it but somehow miss the good effects.

That I quickly remember: Better detuning options (for example, 32 voices per oscillator, different tuning modes, etc..), not just VA, but wavetable and FM synthesis, ring modulation, proper PWM, oscillator synchronization, better filters (not just one type, but TR Ladder, Sallen Key and others, etc..), the mod matrix (that has way more sources and destinations for modulation), multipoint graphical envelopes, better effects...but most importantly..an AMAZING UNISON engine, which is the defining aspect of DUNE 2.

It can do whatever Sylenth1 can do, and sound as good or better, and SO MUCH more. It's like Sylenth1 on steroids, IMHO.

The filters are great. I will not say sublime, but they are very good. They don't sound quite analog to me, in that their character is somewhat digital and predictable, but they are excellent and you can't make them sound bad. The drive is very good, it screams more than most VA's and adding just a small amount is genuinly useful.
What synth that compares with Sylenth but sounds more analog, would you recommend?

What on earth are you talking about? Techno and dance are made from analog sounds as well...anyway a synth will sound how you program it. That said if you want your "analog" sound whatever that does mean - you should really learn to program it. I am sure i am sounding harsh but that's the only thing out there. Learn to program it and it will sound just the way you like it..

Sylenth is not a good choice for analog emulation... It doesn't do that... It is a decidedly digital synth... good sounding, but digital

Dune 2 is a far more versatile synth than Sylenth... and it sounds great... but it is not an analog emulation either...

Indeed. It was not made, nor marketed as such. For a more analog-ish synth, DIVA would be one of the best options.

i agree that the synths in your list are great and very analog sounding. I got all of those you mentioned.

I was a huge fan of Sylenth1 when it was released several yeras ago but after getting a bunch of other synths including those in the list i have not used it for ages.

Anyway regarding the original question: No, Sylenth1 is not only usable for Techno. You could do a quite broad palette of analog like sounds (while i got a few better choices for that at the moment).

Most of us around here are fairly stupid and we know absolutely nufink about nufink...

Music theory,composition,arranging,recording,mastering and God forbid - even performing - we are all absolutely clueless about any of that stuff...

And some of us have been fooling ourselves and others by doing this music thing professionally for yonks

Yes Sir...We just sit around "tweaking some knobs" and using the presets that we have bought for our various noise makers from enlightened beings who are far more elevated than us lemmings...

So when we need dub step (whatever the hell that is) we use the dubstep presets.

When it's dance,trance or romance - we just use the correct presets

We don't know nuffink about synthesis so we just use the prescribed presets...

Same thing when we're recording...

Most of us are brain dead,illiterate and deaf,so we just buy the right plugins for whatever style we are producing to give us the "analog"or the "digital" sound or whatever we are told it is.....

Because we can't think for ourselves,we just believe what everyone else tells us and we take that as gospel

That's the way you do it godly...

Just buy the right presets and you'll be just fine....
