most definitely. try 'audiomulch'. it is cheap as hell, supports vst, and with a nice asio enabled soundcard, will allow real time, zero latency processing of audio throughput.

personaly I sugest you SimulAnalog pack, great set of VST effects simulating real gear (boss, marshal), especialy I love TubeScreamer.

And maybe you could try Jeskola Buzz and its machines for some experimets. Just try
