for a lot of my life I was not either a Black Sabbath fan or an Ozzy fan...in fact to this day I like Sabbath better with Dio than Ozzy (yet I like the Ozzy album of all Sabbath songs "Speak of the Devil" ). I always liked Ozzy on his own but more so with Randy and with Jake E Lee and I stuck tto that for far too long. My wife was always a big Ozzy fan (but Ozzy not Sabbath) and now I can say I am an Ozzy fan and have been for many years now.

So my neighbor had a DVD from 2012, Black Sabbath live and an Ozzy Documentary DVD as well...the concert was great, I dont really care to see bands in their later years, I enjoy remembering the way they (we) were. (ftr we means who I was then). My wife kept saying "you can skip this" but I even watched the drum solo and back in the day drum solos were for sitting in my seat and doing lines while everyone was on their feet.

What really surprised me was Tony Iommi's guitar sound, his cabs said Laney but there were no heads in sight and he had a custom pedal board so I have no idea what he really used but given his past I am going to assume it was Laney amps and maybe some Orange amps. I gotta get some of the songs from the concert to use as comparison tracks because i liked his tone that much...and yes all that tone came from SG's

Geezer Bulter looked like he belonged more on a fishing boat than a stage these days but as usual he was great
FTR the documentary was very interesting as well...

It still sounds so good to me. Cant say I care for the Dio era ... the first 4 albums are the best by a long way imho. Maybe its an age thing ... ? Wish I'd been able to see them live.

are you calling me old? Typically I would say it's just one of those things where my tastes change because that happens all the time (thankfully) and it's true when it comes to Ozzy. But I really never was a fan of Tony Iommi's sound at all back in the Sabbath days. What made them popular for many I found to be a rather dead sound, I thought Dio modernized his playing a bit. But in this case I have spent a lot of time on my own guitar tones and I kind of have a good idea of the tones I like and did not expect to say "wow" which I did. TBH I watched the concert so as not to offend my friend (who did not watch it with me) who is a huge Ozzy/Sabbath fan and I am glad I did.

I cant say what guitarist's tone sparked me first but Mick Taylor, Ritchie Blackmore and Brian May would be in the running and today I do not sound like any of them. Ironically several people felt my latest song had a Black Sabbath sound to it and really I didn't nor do I now really see it...

oh yeah did you go to Page School for grade school? Because I did and that school was in Middlesex County ...of course it was not Jimmy Page but Nathanial Page, a Minuteman from my hometown of Bedford Mass and a revolutionary war hero

I was suppose to see Zep at the North Bridge in Concord Mass on April 15th 1975 at the start of the bicentennial, I went to the show but I did 4 hits of chocolate mescaline so I dont remember if they showed up, I remember sitting with a blanket over ny head in the rain laughing...I know I walked from Concord Mass to Bedford the next morning (about 8 miles to my house) and then got up the next night and went to see Aerosmith at the Boston Garden...1975 Aerosmith (Foghat opened for them)...that's where things start to get blurry...dont worry things cleared up in the early 90's. But one thing, beware because people will tell you anything when you dont remember. They tried to tell me that that actor clown Ron Reagan was president and get this...they even tried to tell me John Hinckley (my name) shot him.
