Thinking of buying one or two compressor plugins

Up to now I have been using the compressor plugins that come with Cubase 7.5. They seem pretty decent to me. Compression is something that I am still getting to grips with. I have been trying the demos of The Glue, Vengeance Multiband and Vengeance Sidechain. They are very different beasts. Vengeance Multiband certainly has some great creative possibilities. The Glue seems to be more subtle.
Any advice and opinions on the Cubase stock compressors, The Glue and the Vengeance Compressors? Are there other options that I should try out?

The glue is a excellent compressor for putting on the master channel. For a mixing compressor you could pretty much have all your compression needs met with DMG Audio Compassion.

At first glance compassion might be a bit complex, but it's only as complex as you need it to be.

Slate VBC for bus compression. Makes me wish i can sell The Glue since it have replace The Glue on my track now.

+1 for Slate VBC and I would also recommend FabFilter Pro-C as a work horse compressor

Cheers i'll give Slate VBC a try too. By the way The Glue was sold here in the market place a couple of days ago. Maybe Cytomic have changed their policy

That's fair comment. I certainly see things in the Vengeance Multiband that the Cubase one can't do. The DPC feature is nice. The Glue grows on me as I use it too.
Going to download the other suggestions and try them over the coming days too.

I've made the mistake of buying a ton of stuff and lost a lot of money in the process of buying stuff I didn't really need.

Compression in my opinion is something I would rather not spend a shit load of money on.

I know platinum record producing mixing engineers love to covet their Neves, APIs, SSLs etc but honestly when it comes down to software I think you can honestly get the job done with something like Compassion which can emulate the characteristics of certain classics. If you want those analog style harmonics in your compression that are 'modelled by waves and the rest then maybe look into a good AIO saturation plugin + compassion and you'll have a great little setup. I don't understand enough about all the types of compressors out there, and I am still learning myself. However I do know that compassion is a great learning tool, as is Pro-C by fabfilter as they both let you visualize the signal.

Multi-band compression is good for drum sounds! It can be much better than compressing individual elements in a multi-channel drum setup for some types of sounds. I have not really got into too much multi-band compression but I know that lots of dubstep musicians swear by it for getting super punchy drum sounds. I think it's pretty easy to use since you can just toss it on a drum bus and shape the sounds quickly.

The glue i bought more or less on a whim, because I bought it as a bundle with The drop and got a discount on both. I now find i use it on all my mixes now and i can't think of a mix without having it on the master bus because it really helps tighten up the sound.

The only other "magical" compression style plugin like the glue that helps your mixes sound great is U-he Satins but that is not really a compressor.

Anyhow hope you find something that works! Don't buy into the hype and think you need to spend a absolute TON on analog modelled plugins.

Thanks for the info and advice. I must admit that I'm liking The Glue so far. I'll definitely be trying others and comparing them with the Cubase stock compressors though. Compassion is one of those on my list.
