With Compassion you get like .. a lot .. in one.

There is something called "mods" in this compressor.
Those "mods" are basically different compressors. So you can switch between different compressors (and compare them) within this one GUI.

The reason it's called "mods" is, that you can actually make your own by tweaking the experienced settings, where you have control over a lot of internal behavioural settings (usually not accessible in other compressors).

That sounds like an interesting feature. Sounds quite deep though.

Don't discount freeware. TDR Feedback II and Molot are top-notch.

I'm not a freeware-only guy either (I use SoundToys, Waves, etc.) The TDR/VladG plugins really are that good.

What's special about the mpressor? I saw pensado video and he also claim that it's his secret weapon. Wondering about this one since it's on sale right now.

love tdr and slick eq these are my ARE my eq and compressor choices. i don't use anything else. because if i bought klanghelm dc8c2, i honestly could not tell you why i bought dc8c2 just that i bought it because its said to be a great compressor. great! so now where does that leave me? if i did buy dc8c2 i would most likely destroy my mix more then improve it because i have nothing to hide or lie about. no, i neither have a strong understanding of compresson or eq i know what the knobs do for compressors, and i know how to use an eq to cut and boost.

but, i am not a mix engineer. producers often try to hard to do it all, and in the end they either over compress or over eq. its perfectly ok especially in the production world to be a jack of all trades master of none. its whne you make the mistake of thinking you are an expert and go out and buy the plugs that experts use. experts (mix engineers) use these because they are experts and know exactly why their buying them.

if your just a jack of all trades stick with the tools of a jack because when you start buying all this pricy gear, not only are you wasting your money, but as often the case your destroy your mixes in the same way that a house painter would destroy the work of a professional and well studied concept artist.

I myself have the Waves SSL and API bundles, I use the SSL channel strip for eq and compression heaps, I use the SSL buss comp on sub-mixes, and then I use the API comp' when mastering... but, having said that, I only use those plugs because I paid s**t loads for them a few years ago, I could probably use just about anything and get similar results... it's about how good you are, and not so much about the things you buy.

Look into Stillwell, specificaly 'the Rocket' and 'Bombardier', they're cheap.

I'll also mention that I use the free plug "SlickHDR" in my mastering chain.

Nobody mentioned Klanghelm DC8C?

It's one of the most versatile compressors available, great sounding no less.

VBC is a game-changer. I can't say the same for anything else I've used, but I do like the compressor in Alloy for general-purpose per-track use. I did a comparison against a bunch of others a while back and it came out on top.

well stock cubase. i honestly would use tdr 2 i would not use those. it like choosing to hammer a nail into a piece of wood with a rock. sure you could but why not use something a bit more purpose driven.

The demos sound good, seems to be good for more than just normal compression. Like the Vengeance Multiband it's good for creative effects. Might have to look at that one too. I think this just goes to show how many fantastic compressor plugins are out there.
Ultimately it comes down to picking things that offer something different from one another and learning how and when to use them.
I'm going to take my time, that's for sure.

These, days I mostly just use the IK Black 76 and White 2A compressors for track duties. I figure if the 1176, and LA2A were good enough most recorded music for several decades, the plugin emulations are good enough for my recordings. Once I started taking this minimalist approach, I found it hard to go back to anything else. Sometimes (actually pretty often) I reach for Audio Damage Rough Rider when I really want to squeeze the piss out of something, and that's about it.

For buss compression, I usually use The Glue or PSP Old Timer. I know Old Timer isn't technically a buss compressor, but it does exactly what I want it to. I still keep DMG Compassion around for when nothing else does the trick, but I almost never end up using it.

I used to have tons of compressor plugins, and I just found they got in the way of actually getting things done. Minimalism FTW.

Thinking of buying one or two compressor plugins
