I hate the way that the British are more or less ridiculed from the Eurovision every year,it basically makes us a laughing stock every year to the rest of Europe,even our own presenter graham norton laughs at it all,we should just pull the plug on it

It says a lot when the BBC keep anouncing on the news 'a bearded drag queen won eurovision'

They dont say austria won, or whatever the blokes names is won

This is quite interesting. Votes are split 50% jury and 50% public per country.

in the case of the UK:

The UK Jury voted poland dead last (25th)
the UK public.... voted Poland 1st.

so within one country set of votes we see a completely polarised opinion.

Graham Norton doesn't ever rubbish our own song/act (even though sometimes he would have good reason to - last year for example), and he's laughing because he's having fun - and if you can't have fun while watching Eurovision it's time to give up.

There are always plenty more ridiculous acts than our own (this year France and Poland spring immediately to mind), and our attempt this year was the best one in years. Even when we get the song right (which we hardly ever do these days), we couldn't compete with the group voting of the Baltic States, the Balkans, Scandiniavia, former USSR nations - think how many years now the competition has been won by one of these countries, it's not only Britain that hasn't had a look-in. Hopefully that's changing now, with Austria winning, and the Netherlands in second place, both of which were ahead of everyone else by a large margin, and coincidentally both of which were classy songs (though the Netherlands' song was more my cup of tea, and certainly broke new ground as far as this competition is concerned)

That is interesting reading, but you'd expect differing opinions between a panel of five music-industry insiders and thousands of members of the general public, so I don't think you can draw that conclusion. Fair enough, the panel were fairly unanimous in their votes for Poland, but if you look at their individual votes for the Netherlands, they range from 1st to 20th...
