Sylenth1 Analog sounds or only techno?

I think I stick with Synth1 for warm 80s sounds... It misses the nice FX that Sylenth has (was my main reason for doubting). I have been programming some demos this night and I must say, they sound so good...
Sylenth is definatly a better techno synth, great arp and sweet filters...
Dune (1) seems a good alternative, but the user base is a bit small I guess...
Presets aren't that important, I know, but it's fun having new inspiration.
Just be honest, everybody likes new flavours...

Sylenth has tons of presets available, but pitty the synth hasn't got FM or PWM.

If you want full vintage power, I can only recommend DIVA.
It took me some time to get warm with this synth, but now it's one of my favorites.

If you have the skills, there are a lot of sufficient plugins to do the job.

But with a modern CPU it's well usable.

It perfectly shows how Sylenth1 sounds. As I expected wanted to answer to the OP: No, Sylenth1 is not the best contender for analog sounds.

Go for Diva. Or Albino can produce more analog soundings sounds, in terms of darker "warmer" sounds. Sylenth1 always have that slight aggressive "character" that makes it for me less analog. And definitely turn off those internal FX, they're just BS.

You can make a lot of plugins sound analog with EQing or effects. So it's hard to tell what people that use Sylenth1 for 80s sounds really do afterwards during processing and mixing.

When I reamp Sylenth1 thru some outboard gear, it does sound differently.


And then... finally, and again, as always, it's a matter of taste

Yep, I figured that out also by now.
Sylenth is perfect for techno stuff, sharp sounds, can go deep, but not so warm.
I find Synth1 still very warmer. Pitty it has no decent FX onboard.
I tried Dune (1) also, but I think I'll stay with Synth1, lot's of sounds to start from and handy to master.

I think the big success of Sylenth and the preferred usage in some styles (yes, the trance guys love Sylenth) has something to do with the not so analog sound. There is a clear VA sound and a great unison implementation which makes it very easy to create stabs, plucks but also very simple sounds which are often used with arpeggios. The overall sound of most productions I've heard (where I know that Sylenth was used a lot) are for me a bit clean and sometimes "digital" but I think this was the wished result.

I can get some really cool analog sounding basses out of Sylenth1. But I have also state, that I go thru some high end analog gear for that.

With the right EQing in such a chain plus all the tube sound, I get some deep heavy warm basses and subs with punch like hell. Also possible ITB, but not as luxury sounding

Yes it is not best contedender, but question was it on;y for techno and those time links to presets shows that it is not.
BTW those internal FX, barely few and most of "effects sound" is from OSCs itself, whole demo is 98% dead mono, dead mono, what you hear will sound the same even when played through someone's a**h**e lol
Of course to discussions like this there's no end, so to sum it up, is it only for techno? NO it's not and if you're after some very analog like sound then sylenth1 is too old for that, it was made as analog vst synth but dsp back then was different and many shortcuts were made.

You're absolutely right.

No, it's definitely not restricted to only techno or EDM. You can use every synth in every style. Don't make your life harder as it is. If you like the sound and it suits the arrangement. Go ahead.

I had owned Sylenth1 since 2008 and at that time it was top notch for doing analog sounds. Since not having used it for ages i finally sold it now (to someone who searched it at the Marketplace at KVR).

I got a huge amount of softsynths inludeing some that could replace Sylenth1 like e.g. DUNE 2, Diva, Saurus, Synthmaster 2.6, Oxium, Synthix and others.
