You may want to check out the new versions of KX-FREE. I really like them, and I think if you add a little analog these things have huge potential.

I think they also take donations. KX-FREE

probably the best thread for the free stuff is here http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 4&start=15

other solutions to add to this include get the player versions of synthmaster for $29 and add libraries to it for $15 and less when on sale EDM presets are plentiful in that synth. For $30 you can get both messiah and memory moon.

OPX player is $40 as well.

The KLC has been mentioned and if you can pay $50 per month snag a korg controller for around $50 and you get M1 le plus a lot of other software free including AAS, UVI, Reason, EZ Drummer LITE versions plus an upgrade path of $99 to add all 5 of the Korg synths. Each costs you $50 individually so instead of adding them one at a time and potentially spending $250 you can acquire them all for $99 more.

You also could snag the 61 key version of their micro controllers and end up with the whole enchilada FREE buy it from sweetwater and they will let you pay it out over 3 monthly payments so you can make 3 $60 payments.

You can get Synthmaster full also for under $50 if you're patient enough to wait for a sale. :)

OK I know you said under $50 ... I'm going to go over that by a bit

For $69 is the DiscoDSP Phantom. This does some awesome FM stuff, and will load sysex files for DX-100/DX-27 ... but it is NOT an emulation of these things! No, this one adds in some nice filters, reverb, all sorts of tricks, and makes some really great sounds. I use it alot in my music.

Also, freebie wise: Check out Synth1, Tone2 Firebird, Hexter (a DX7 clone) and any of the elektrostudio plugins, especially ODSay (Arp Odyssey), Mini Model (MiniMoog), and Six Month June (Juno 6). These do some really nice sounds.

The Korg M1 is an especially good deal for that price.

It is very close to the original hardware and includes all the soundcard add-ons.
Was originally over $3000 (with sound cards)
